@@lexihall7383 No I totally get what you mean. Glee was highly melodramatic and had a lot of unrealistic plot lines. It was bad but it was kind of self-aware of that and that made it likable. I think Riverdale takes its over the top cheesy dialogue way too seriously, which is what makes it so cringe. They also tried to make the plots more dramatic but it went completely off the rails and now neither the writers nor the actors seem to know what's going on.

honestly, some of the cast is /extremely/ talented just not with theatre centered things. and then they’re talented, but they aren’t put in a good situation. you have to work with what you’re given, and they are not given good material. i feel bad for some of the actors honestly, but they /seriously/ need to either A. put effort into the theatre episodes or B. just not do the theatre episodes !!

The Carrie episode wasn’t awful. However. They then became much much MUCH more then awful Edit: Ok yes I agree that they absolutely did Carrie dirty and it’s literally not good at all. But I think they did worse with the other ones, like the Carrie episode wasn’t the most painful to watch and I’ve seen the musical a few times through so I do know how much they disgraced it. Emily, if your going to use the story lines and score from a musical especially if it is based in high school and about teen and mother bullying and religion, than you respect the score and the story, and you don't change it so that it doesn't make sense, and you as a producer don't bander to get the Broadway community thinking you are going to get more kids into Broadway and then crap all over the restive teams work and screw the composers by drastically changing songs, and giving story lines to other characters who are not in that musical just cause they are part of the river dale cast. if you want to do a river dale musical then ou hire composers and do a river dale musical, you don't screw up two wonderful created musicals just so you can try and get viewers.

the riverdale x musical theater discourse has always been super interesting to me as someone who has been/is in both “fandoms”. in fact, riverdale is the reason i got back into mt after a few years of just not acknowledging it. but as someone who has been a part of the riverdale fandom when they have aired these musical episodes, i have not seen a single bad thing being said about musical theater within the fandom, which i really appreciate. in fact, if anything, the riverdale fandom has trashed on its own show (rightly so, it sucks lol) and continuously expressed how we think the show is ruining the mt shows they keep trying to “put on”. my point here is that i think a lot of the shit is misdirected at a fandom who really could not care less about “how cool theater kids are”, in fact a lot of us ARE theater kids. so as (begrudgingly) a part of the riverdale fandom, i would like to apologize on behalf of the shitshow of a musical episode riverdale keeps producing, and would encourage you all to direct your distaste towards the producers/writers of the show, thanks!

Personally I think people tend to take Riverdale way too seriously, like more seriously then the writers do. I mean last season gave us Chad Michael Murray in an Evil Kenival outfit about to climb into a homemade escape rocket, in no way is this show meant to be taken as seriously as people take it. I see it as some fun fluff, something I can sit down with, turn my brain off, and watch pretty people do crazy shit. Is it amazingly written? No, but I still tend to find it fun. I actually enjoyed most of the musical episodes too(not familiar with Hedwig so I was as into the last musical episode).

The way the writers structure the musicals within the show just makes no sense. - A school play is done solely by the drama department with the students within that department playing the roles, it isn't something anyone in the school can audition for, you need some experience in drama, and only the grade 11's and 12's are part of the play (if they've taken drama every year since grade 9). - There isn't a wide range of professional costumes, most stuff is brought from home by the students themselves. - It's something that's been prepared for the entire semester, not within a week. - Whenever they practice, there isn't someone describing the scene to the actor before they perform as if they haven't all read through the script, went through the performance without actually acting, etc. - There isn't a big make-up room as if this is a professional performance with an actual theatre company - They don't bring in adults outside of the school to be part pf the play for _"accurate age depiction"_ - A regular public school wouldn't do a musical, they would do a regular play being that the students would need years of theatre experience (including musicals) to actually be able to pull something like that off. Only theatre school, or one tied directly to the arts with students who've been performing their whole lives could do a musical. I'm just going off of my experiences. I was never in a school musical performance (just regular plays), but I'm pretty sure it isn't anything like what *Riverdale* presents.

Ok in my high school experience we do a musical every year we can. We memorize, we dont bring in adults, we have costumes and makeup but we bring the department $50 for costuming fees. We also do a play and student directed plays.

i actually enjoy the show riverdale. although having some questionable plots, once u get over that it's really cool how the develop the mystery. the people that sing in the musical episodes (the leads) can actually sing pretty well (especially lili and camila) it's just when they put the autotune on top of it sometimes it comes off as sounding fake in a sense. it doesn't sound great when they put the autotune on it because the sounds that we hear are not normal sounds that a human can make. the entire show insn't a musical, so therefore their cast doesn't need to be able to sing, so in that sense i understand why autotune was used but i think it's definitely too much
