How trains work in this game: You don't need two locomotives at both ends. Trains will automatically flip in stations. NEVER place one way signals after the X-shaped switch. NEVER build two X-shaped switches together. Please bulldoze one X-shaped switch in your line. Place a two-way signal at entrance and exit of the stations. But NEVER place two signals between station and switch. Place more than one pair of ONE-WAY signals on your double track main line. Make sure all of the one way signals are facing the correct direction. Remember, the game's code about railway signals is pretty shit. If you run into any weird problem, just delete the signals in front of the confused trains, and put them back after the trains have passed. Also, I am the 60000th subscriber to your channel. Congratulations!

@@PartyElite And they aren't semaphore signals, those have an arm. In the UK we call the ones you were using colour aspect signals (if it helps. lol). Think of your tracks as sections, each section stops a train at it if one is in the section ahead, like a chain, each signal controls it's section etc., and as East said, don't use Xovers, just have 2 switches (one each way at the end of each track). If you only have one train going up & down, you don't need any sections etc. (Sir Snowy - retired train driver). :)
@SbgamingTv5 жыл бұрын
Add to what @East Pavilion-er mentioned, the game uses Block Signals. If you've played a game like Factorio, Mashinky, etc you have a better grasp regarding signals. Basically, the entire space of connected track between all sets of signals is considered a block. Only one train can be in a block at a time. If you create a Diamond Crossing (the X-shaped switches) and you put signals on the in-routes and out-routes, the entire X is considered a single block, and thus if two trains are approaching a Diamond Crossing, one will have to stop while the other passes through and clears it before the other can proceed, despite the fact that neither can physically collide. You're better off not using Diamond Crossings. This game needs chain or Pre-signals, like Factorio has. Those tell a train to go only if they can exit the block they are entering. In a game like Transport Fever by comparison, that game uses Path signals, which means that you don't even need signals at a Diamond crossing if two trains are passing by one another. On the other hand, if one train needed to use the junction, either train would have been stopped back at a previous signal.
@stimpymcstimp64425 жыл бұрын
@@PartyElite You probably already knew but seeing this comment right here and maybe for future watchers: Chain signals have been put into the game which means that a chain signal can check two blocks ahead if a path is clear. If there isn't then the train waits those two blocks before so the train will not block a block (pun intended) where there is a switch or crossing.

the year is 1970. PE: "It's the future" In 1970 the Soviet Republic already mastered electricity, AI tractors, sub-light speed construction and other menial nonsense, but it was merely the beginning of the greatest state to ever exist. In early January The Great Leader built the Mormonsk agro-farm along with the fields it serviced, Luhasyzk factorial district and the great Luhasyzk-Mormonsk railroad. Later in the month three new worker accommodations were constructed at a moments notice to work the aforementioned facilities. The evening of January 20th the Mormonsk farmlands were finally connected to the power grid after 2 to 4 hours after construction. This might be the greatest downfall of this glorious state of ours, so much valuable work-time was lost. It took the greatest minds of our land to figure out the train schedule and as a result of confusion some parts of the track were deconstructed to be assembled later that day. At the exact date of 27. January 1970 the entire railroad system was finally working at acceptable productivity levels. And this concludes our history lesson for the January of 1970.

It's a learning curve for sure but you have tools to help you. The biggest issue imo is if you are looking from the wrong angle, it looks like your flat land won't change shape. If it's not working try moving the camera around, and you will likely see your near 2d perspective wasn't telling you the real story. There is a very hard limit on how steep terrain can be, and if you turn on the wire mesh (F1 or F2), then you will get a better idea of how steep a section really is. If in doubt, save, then go nuts buying what you need to buy, until you work out how to do what you want to do. Drop a construction building close to the site and buy up some diggers and bulldozers, and it will shape a lot faster. Once you are happy with what you want to do reload and do it right the first time. Also this game follows a lot of real world physics. If you have ever been up a ski field you'll know how switch back roads criss cross their way up a mountain. At the hairpin turns, sometimes you can cut into the mountain, but most times you'll need to build up lower ground at the corner to make a flat section big enough for the turn. You only need 1 road width going up the hill, but you need double that width at the turn. Also, you can grow the yellow roads. It shapes the ground around it and you can keep extending longer rather than accepting the road and it will often get you the shape you were looking for. It can take some time but it's very rewarding if you manage to make a complex road up a mountain to run your mines. You can easily conveyor down ore most of the time. One last trick I only recently learnt myself, is if everything is dug up and brown, tap the N key a few times and it dries it all out. That makes it easier, imo, to see the contours of the land. Hope some of that helps someone out.

RE: tracks, stations, buildings not perfectly aligning with each other, I have seen other youtubers say that if you rotate the building multiple times before you place it, it will automatically snap back to being in-line with the grid. TL;DR for the following, you're doing awesome! On a separate note, I love your choices, You chose exactly where I would've chosen to position my city so it can expand towards the river but keeping the power grid distant, chosen far reaching agricultural sectors (although I personally wouldn't have placed it on the river), and are working this very very well. I am really enjoying watching your state grow and flourish and am looking forward to being able to purchase this game myself and use the knowledge I've learnt from you. Spasiba Komrade! N.B. I'd love to see a big Soviet monument up on the mountain that can be seen for miles around. But that's just a personal preference, this is your state, do what you feel!
@Whisperblade4 жыл бұрын
OK this is a bit of a necro comment, but I hope this helps anyone else having issues with the lights for X sections. For the track switching (the X section), you need the semaphores (lights) only on the entrance to the X sections for the direction the trains are to switch from. If you put them on both ends of the switch they will get stuck on the crossover, or just before it. To explain this in a different way; Hypothetically you have two tacks one we will call "southbound" parallel set of track called "northbound", to have a train switch to the "Southbound" tracks from the "Northbound" tracks and you place a semaphore (signal light) visible only when viewed by a train heading south at the northern end of the X section on both sets of tracks, you then place signals at the southern end of the X section facing south (visible only to trains headed North) on again on both sets of tracks.

In general, for trains with a power car on each end the power car will only have a cab on one end because they're pretty much always kept attached unless they're going in for major maintenance. If the locomotive has a cab on both ends it's just meant to attach to the front of any train its required to pull (having a double cab means you don't need to worry about which way round it is before attaching).

you can search about openttd train tutorial so you could learn more than the basics of railroad layout, in the last resort since you are using only one train you could dedicate an unique railroad for passanger and the other one for cargo, I played a lot of Openttd and Railroad empire to mess with railroad layout and crossover and such, I'll need to experimente how this game mecanics the railroad system... if not their shouldn't be an alocated direction in the train station side after a crossover. I didn't catch it, but I'm wondering whether the game has nuclear power. That could be an interesting direction to evolve in as the game goes on, as I'm pretty sure its the only way to avoid air pollution in this timeframe with electrical generation. Otherwise, after you setup food stuff, which sounds like it will take at least another episode, mining and manufacturing could be interesting areas to expand. While I know you don't plan to sell to the decadent West yet, it could be cool to try and target different products at the West, and to also acquire Western currency, i.e. dollars, to adjust to say, weird price changes. The game having two currencies makes me think there will be points where one currency will better than another at certain times, which could be interesting to play with.
@PartyElite5 жыл бұрын
Maybe it unlocks at the right year (or is coming soon as a feature). Would be cool to mine and process nuclear material!
@88Factor5 жыл бұрын
Yeah! That would be really cool. That actually makes me wonder whether military production is a thing. Selling AKs alone could be really interesting from an export perspective. In fact, this game having multiple cash currencies already makes it seem rather interesting from an import/export perspective. It makes me wonder whether during say, the 1980s, one will have a ton of reason to use U.S. dollars instead of rubles, or try to stockpile one currency or another. @@PartyElite

I know how railroads work (kinda) and one thing I picked out is the curves, they are WAY to tight, a real train went over those the train would derail. Another thing is what railroads call "blocks". Blocks are the space between signals. Signals are needed at EVERY switch to a industry, station, or cross-over (crossing). Also remove that electrical track, Your spending more power than you produce, and RBS (Regenerative Braking System) was very experimental then, and not widely used, diesel was and still is the primary way to go so get the oil wells going ASAP. The grades are also way to steep, an average train can handle grades of rarely 3% (3 feet per 100 feet). Also when It comes to railroads remember this: Compact tracks have higher yearly cost, if you break out-of the "compact is good" vibe im getting from you the railroads will look alot better, and you might even educate some other people as I am you. Blocks distances may very, but is up to you.
