Ostriv is only BARELY on sale, but when it comes to historically based city builders, it's been one of my favorites for a long time. Its setting is the 1700's in Ukraine rather than based in medieval era, but it has some unique mechanics for balancing labor and how your villagers are fed. It's another early access game that's a passion project for a single developer who goes out of his way to try and bring in accuracy in the building types and to the production tree even if it could be called a little more simple and chill than most. There's no combat at all in Ostriv, and no real permanent bankruptcy either, though you can still goof and lose all your villagers due to not providing what they need.

Some of my most anticipated games : Falling Frontier Capital Command (Thanks to you waaay back then) Starminer Sins of a Solar Empire 2 I also bought Shadow Empire a week or so ago, and ive been addicted. Just like the old wargames. Hard, but rewarding if you can do well.

I felt the same when I first started - a bit underwhelmed. But I was doing the beginning campaign and there is a ton of handholding (which I actually benefitted from). That said, doing skirmishes or challenges is where the game really shines and you can bite into some deeper tactics/strategy. Also putting the difficulty high enough is important too (I've been putting opponents on worthy).

Jagged alliance is a crap game, great at first, but the plot falls to pieces, and becomes completely unbelievable about half way through, when the countries army which has been nonexistent since the start of the game, suddenly crawls out from under a rock, and becomes a new enemy.

I do not understand why...nones made a kung fu ..strategy game. Imagine...you train up your pupils in martial arts trying to make next Bruce Lee. You enter them into tournaments you can watch the fight....eventually your school becomes the best...and then you arm them..soldier up and try take over country....battles involving intense cq combat.....anyway ...that for me would be best strategy game ever.. ww2 a rts has never been done properly either. Coh3 is garbage...a old c dated zoomed in engine and tiny squad battles. No rts has yet done ww2 justice. Best strategy games for me are starwars empires at war....old medieval 2 tw and attila. I'm very disapointed with alot ofvthe new games.

I feel IXION could have been so much more, wastes a tremendous amount of player time for little payoff, and steals basic design from game of the late 90's. The quality of the game space could have brought so much more game play.

Ixion is an amazing game, had it since launch and the depth and story is astounding. The music score is about the best i have heard on a game in a long time too

Watching your playthrough inspired me to pick up Workers and Resources. I'm wondering if you've checked out Shadows of Forbidden Gods? It's obviously a passion project that lacks the QoL of more polished games, but it's an excellent chance to play The Big Bad waking from darkness (a la Sauron or Cthulu)

Against The Storm is phenomenal. Getting an awesome idea like Roguelite + City Builder blend on paper is one thing, but combined with the excellent mechanics and its fever dream vibe, they knocked it out of the park. HIGHLY recommended.

It took awhile to understand Manor Lords, and then another week before success truly came; but I had to play and understand Manor Lords before I approached Soviet Workers. Soviet Workers is at another level, and I would compare it to a virtual miniature train set builders paradise where there is no enemy except bad design on the part of the player-- this makes it infinitely re-playable. I could easily hate Against the Storm because it is Rogue-like and pompous and has no real end goal where the player feels success, only a momentary respite from inevitable failure. On Storm I don't like the weighting of what it takes to beat the Boss Stages. Soviet has no enemies or storms and instead has the solution of snow plows, so I much prefer it and it is cheap in terms of cost and resources in terms of disk space on the computer

There's fun rts that uses something interesting ant! U have to build ur own ant colonel and there is a story mode I would love to see u play it as I played it and it is fun it's called empire of the undergrowth

Chaos Gate Daemonhunters was a lot of fun for me. The tactical turn-based combat hit a sweet spot regarding the mix of character options and combat situations through the campaign - which also had management options. I'd recommend it to someone who enjoyed the more recent Xcom games but want more options/decisions to it all. Also no missed shots, therefore no bad roll streaks, and manages to keep it engaging.

I picked up Songs of Conquest after hearing all the hype but for me, the pixel art, while gorgeous to look at, made it way to hard for me to play. EVERYTHING was too detailed to the point I couldn't really tell what anything was. Detailed to the point of muddy. Which is a shame because I love the style of game it is.

I still think Manor Lords is exremely overrated and it would take years until it can stand to its promises. It's very barebones. Graphics are superb but gameplay is rather shallow if you compare it with other games in the genere, especially Ostriv.

An IXION playthrough is a mix of high risk and high reward or punishment. You don't get to rest and take a breather, super fun took me atleast 6 tries to beat

pretty good recommendations I might grab btw anytime I look at Shadow Gambit are any other game made by that company I feel a little sad sometimes they decided to shut down their Studios ( even though I understand the reasons why but I wish they did not shut down and try new ideas and whatnots I feel like the stealth genre is kind of a dying only one to hold is ioi and I want some competition)

@@changsiah2 Yeah, it's a real shame. I have heard of another game in the stealth rtt/ strategy genre, Sumerian Six. It has a bunch of archaeologist commandos as they fight occult Nazis. One of them can ride along with a guard invisibly, while another can turn an enemy into an aoe bomb, and a third is a werebear.

It misses end game or even mid game because it's still in early alpha. Now the alpha is really polished but after building few towns (30 hours in or so) you most likely seen 97% of what it can offer rn.
