New Years fireworks San Francisco 2015 - Complete show - January 1

From The Embarcadero, the January 1, 2015 San Francisco fireworks over the bay. Also a few crowd and traffic shots afterwards. There was no fog at all this year, completely clear view. San Francisco does not have a tradition of putting on elaborate, over-the-top fireworks displays like some places do. As long as I've been here, it has always just been sort of a "standard" local show. Competent, but not elaborate. My suspicion is that they don't want to spend the money for anything fancier, nor deal with the crowds that would result. In addition, there are multiple shows in various places around the Bay Area, so it is fragmented -- there is not one, central grand show for the entire Bay Area. Then, there's the fog factor. There's a significant risk that you could put a lot of effort into an elaborate show that no one could see. While I admit that I'm by no means a fireworks aficionado, I don't agree with your underwhelmed "Competent, but not elaborate" assessment of the San Francisco display--it seemed pretty spectacular to me (and I'm from Chicago, so I have seen other elaborate civic firework productions). Anyhow, my wife and I were visiting the Bay area (Piedmont) over the holidays, but sadly, had to return to Chicago on the 30th, so we missed the fireworks. Nonetheless, we once again (fourth visit) loved the city (except for the real estate prices); the sites, the restaurants, and the people, so welcoming and helpful. I must add, you are a top-rank ambassador for the city, and I admire how sturdily you held your camera, i.e., no tripod(!).
