@@alicenelson8615 Yes, I was wrong. Someone mentioned in comments that it was for a performance of Vaganova students at Moscow's competition of ballet dancers and choreographers. I also found a mention of it on Natalie's instagram and also Vaganova academy's webpage. It appears to be a performance of Vaganova's students there, rather than actually taking part in a competition as contestants.

@@angele4091 They are not as young as they look. Natasha is in her 2nd year at the Vaganova academy which would be 2/6 - 2nd year ballet 6th academic subjects. This would make her 11 or 12 (but she had prior training and was en pointe before the academy). So is the boy, as Larysa Colombo mentioned in another thread. She also mentioned that the other girl is in the 3/7 year which would make her 12 or 13 - depending on the birthday month. I don't know if the other girl was en pointe before the academy or even if she had prior training as it's not a requirement for the admission for the 1/5 year. (edited to add) I've just read in another thread, Natasha is 11, Polina is 12.

This is incredible! I am stunned if you don’t look at their size you could mistake them for adult dancers. They are so incredibly talented and on the spot. Not flawless obviously but who would expect that at their age anyways. My only concern is seeing such young girls on pointes. I know it’s a whole debate within the community and in between schools, but still I was surprised. I wish them all a bright future! 🤗

I suspect they are older than you think. Natasha is 11, the other girl, Polina is 12. Natasha is starting her second year at the Vaganova academy, the other girl - 3rd. Normally, Vaganova academy starts pointe later in the first year, by which time most of them are 11, but Natasha had prior training and was already en pointe before the academy. She also danced adult variations, something the rector of the Vaganova academy, Tsiskaridze was actually very critical about and told her to stop, as well as her being en pointe at 9, indirectly. There is a video here of that performance and Tsiskaridze's reaction, but it's in Russian. But... as she was already prepared, she got the pas de trois above while only starting her 2nd year, she also danced Little Masha (Clara) in the academy's Nutcracker performance last year, but it's much simpler. I don't know if the other girl had training before starting the academy.

The video is from the Vaganova academy which is probably the most famous ballet academy in the world. They've been teaching ballet for over 200 years. I'd imagine they know what they are doing. This was just a mistake, and the boy quickly pull her out of it. (edited to add) I can post a link to a video of Diana Vishneva at 12 in an exam at this academy which includes pointe. Or a video of Maria Khoreva - a first soloist at Mariinsky - dancing this same variation at 12 (and she had had no ballet training before she started at this academy at 10, she came from rhythmic gymnastics.)

I neber had the opportunity necause iys so rare here where im from , I badly want to dance balllet when i was a kid i even beg my mom . So for someone whos learning how to dance ballet , do not give up follow your dreams no matter how hard it is , because you have the opportunity to learn unlike some who has no opportunity even if they really want to dance . Im a advance hip hop dancer now but i want to learn as a beginner again for improvement , i want to learn from a professional dancers and choreographers yet again theres no one offering for dance classes here but i have youtube . It didnt bother me now that i didnt become a ballet dancer I enjoying watching dancers like this little kids and it makes me smile everytime i see a ballet dancer perform.

Well done but I didn't realize that children that young could go en pointe. In the 1970's we were made to wait until 8th grade or so, to allow our feet to develop. Maybe that's not an issue for these well-trained and well-conditioned young dancers.

They are around 11 at this video. They are Vaganova academy students, at the end of their first year. The VBA accepts kids at the age of 10-11 on September 1st. the video is from May. While prior training is not technically a requirement, these days many kids get it. Normally, the VBA puts their kids en pointe during their first year by which time they'd be about 11, but these girls clearly were en pointe before the academy.

Correction. Larisa Columbo mentioned in another thread that Natalie is in the 2nd year i.e. 2/6 - second year ballet, 6th academic subjects so is the boy, Mark. The other girl, Polina is in the 3/7 year. So depending on their birthday month Natalie and Mark are 11 or 12 and Polina would be 12-13. The video is from November. There are videos of Natalie en pointe here from the time she was much younger as she had a lot of training before the academy (which isn't a requirement), but I don't know anything about Polina. At the academy, they put girls en pointe later in the year by which time most are 11, but some girls have prior training.

@Marydancer33 She made a mistake. She is not weak. BTW Where are you performing now? For reference, one of these girls is Maria Khoreva at 12 dancing the same thing (and she wasn't en pointe before the academy as she hadn't had any ballet training before she was accepted at 10, she had had rhythmic gymnastics before that): kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4Oki4tuZct1bqM and at 18 she was the first soloist in Mariinsky. You can also check young Maria Bulanova and Maria Bulanova today (even though in her case she was en pointe too early, in the studio she was at as a kid, not the VBA). BTW do your teacher's 17-year old students dance like these girls: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4iulWipgZmAmpo (you can find other parts there too).
@jewelmarkess
@jewelmarkess 3 жыл бұрын
@Marydancer33 There was a video here from a school concert at the VBA. One of the 12-year olds was Anastasia Bogdashkina and she made the same mistake. Now she is in Mikhailovsky theater. Really, things happen with kids, but I expect the teachers in the Vaganova academy, probably the most famous ballet academy in the world, know what they are doing. Again, how many 17-year olds in your school could pass that exam.

The girls are studying at the Vaganova academy. Natasha is 11, and she is starting her second year. As I found out here, Polina is 12 and starting the third year. Natasha had training before the academy and was already en pointe, there are videos of her dancing adult variations, something the rector of the Vaganova academy told her to stop doing when she came to a Russian talent contest (or show - there is a video here of her performance and his criticism). Normally, kids at the academy start pointe later in the first year by which time they are 11, so I don't know how much training if any Polina had before the academy. Given the videos of the 2nd year exam and some of the academy's end of the year concert performances, it's likely that she had, as the exams and concerts show simpler choreography. But only a few kids get chosen to dance the pas de trois above. It's usually part of the VBA's December's Nutcracker, but the particular performance was a movie of the Vaganova student performances' to be shown at a Moscow competition - performance, not part of the competition itself. The complete performance is here btw at the Vaganova academy channel.

@@gigachad17423 Nope. They just look small. In fact, I missed the date in the video, that it's this month, Natalie Furman is in the 2nd grade in the academy or, as they call it 2/6 - 2nd year ballet, 6th - general subjects. Someone also commented in a reply to another thread that the other girl is in her 3rd year (3/7), so depending on their birthday month, they could be a year older. In general, Vaganova academy requires that kids applying for the 1st (1/5) year after they have finished the 4th year of regular school. So their first year is first year of ballet and 5th year of general subjects. So first year would be 10-11 on September 1st (occasionally 9, if they finished elementary school earlier, but it's rare), second year - 11-12 on September 1st, third year - 12-13 on September 1st. The exact age would depend on the birthday month. (edited to add) The boy is in 2/6 class,
