My daughter is making straight A’s and finds the virtual curriculum to be incredibly easy. I love engaging with her and seeing how she can adapt to the distance learning. By the way I might keep her virtual just because I enjoy having her full-time. Thank you PISD for everything.

Children learn better in face-to-face classes, I agree ... My son has been receiving face-to-face classes for a few months now and everything is going very well, thank God.

I’m not sure if it’s just my students teacher but she is only logging on ONCEEEE A WEEK !!!! He’s in elementary, how can they learn that way? It’s like punishing my child for being high risk.

It is the teacher there is so much going on that the school board is not listening to most of the parents concern. I got tired of trying to reach someone the whole year I gave up the ending month of February. I was getting sick from stress i was overwhelmed depression wanted to come in. This is happening to a lot of parents I’ve been told.. if only the parents would come together to get their attention. But than again as I said so much is going on that their focus is trying not to break down themselves... Prayer works. 💕

My daughter’s teacher has the class activate the Zoom meeting at 7:45 and they class only logs off for lunch/recess and music/PE. There is literally a teacher in the Zoom meeting at all times.

Kids will go back to school next year. I have no problem with that.

Wow, so this means if a Senior cannot attend face-to-face due to medical reasons that student will not be able to graduate with their classmates that they have been with for the previous 3 years?

Hi Ms. Cavillo! ** Long message but from an understanding and supportive teacher in the district** After watching this three times, I interpret it as yes they will get their diploma, but as they are minimizing the remote learning curriculum the virtual experience will done by other means. Is that the way you understood it? I’m asking. I teach in the district and just now discovered this video. So this is new info for me. This is most likely still under review. As you know, there has been so much change since Spring Break of 2020, many students, parents, and teachers often wonder if we can plan knowing something is written in stone. I know this doesn’t help you, but I do understand where you are coming from and feel your pain. My husband has an extremely rare genetic disorder that affects his immune system. He was never able to get vaccinated as a child, per instructions from doctors and specialists. He also developed severe asthma, which he still battles with daily. I wish he would have had the option to receive online learning with his teachers, but the 70’s were a different time. It’s a wonder he survived. His mom was unable to home school him. She also wanted him to get the full educational experience. When the quarantine hit, he was the first one we thought of. We had to do grocery delivery, and my daughter quit her job at Kroger since she lives here and was scared to bring the virus home. Eventually he decided to grocery shop again, but he will continue to wear his mask. My point is, had one of my children been in the same boat as their father, they would continue to stay at home. I have been extremely cautious since returning to work, and our students aren’t allowed to have noses uncovered or get close to each other. They have desk shields and are spread far apart. They can’t do group projects in class, bc of social distancing, which sucks! It is important for students to collaborate, so many of us use “breakout rooms” in Zoom. This is a place for them to work in groups and share screens in small groups. I monitor the rooms, of course, and go from room to room to get feedback and a progress check. It would be great if your student could be included in that way from time to time, even if it’s for social get-togethers or events. School admin and educators know how important this is, *especially* for Seniors. Rest assured, the issue you asked about will be asked by many others. I can’t speak for others, obviously, but it would be so amazing if the class of 2021 could be grandfathered in since it’s a VERY special year in the lives of students. My son graduated in 2020...talk about a letdown! For so many years we thought it was so cool that he was in the Class of 2020. Who could have expected this?? So they had to rely on text or video chats, etc...they felt cheated, but talk about a story for their children and grandchildren! I’m sorry this turned into a novel! 😳 😬
