I pretty much use my table saw everyday in the work shop, I think it’s the most useful tools that I use. So in this video, along with some table saw safety and maintenance tips, I show you how to build my top 4 table saw jigs and accessories. These table saw jigs and accessories, are very easy to build, and as I show you how to make them, I am sure that you will find them very useful in your next woodworking project.
As this table saw video is different from my usual content, it was something I needed to get done. I thought it was a worthwhile video to make, as a woodworker, these table saw jigs and accessories are very useful, and a table saw safety refresher is always a good thing - Enjoy!

I needed this video in 1992! Haha... I still have a scar over my solar plexus where a piece of plywood bound and kicked back on me. I was 13 or so and helping build a set for a drama production at my brother’s high school. I thought I was dying for a few seconds. 🤣

Wiseman once told me... you are the softest thing in the shop and everything is designed to do a job like cut wood with the secondary job of hurting really bad while trying to kill you so respect every tool and piece of equipment. Don’t live in fear just use your head and think before doing...... thank you for the good video and lessons

Total noob, here. I really appreciate your description of the knife thing (see? Noob.) behind the blade. I just bought an old, used Craftsman table saw table with a skill saw mounted underneath. It doesn't have that knife thing. I've been watching videos like this before using it in an effort to retain all my personal parts. Thank you for contributing to my health and safety!

Your videos leave no stone unturned. This one is no exception. Another great video. I needed a grippier kind of push stick to use on mt stationary belt sander. I found that adding some rubber from a bicycle inner tube to the end of a push stick worked better than a hand full of right thumbs to hold a small part in place while sanding it flat on the belt sander.

One neat improvement to the zero clearance insert: drill holes all the way through the wood and use hex set screws as the elevation screws, that way you can adjust the height of the insert from the top while it is in place. Thanks for all the great videos!

These were great tips. First time I used a store bought table saw I had borrowed it from a friend who had not set it up correctly, and not thinking about checking because said friend worked in construction so I figured it was good to go- I was dead wrong. Kickback hurts like nothing else, had the nastiest bruise on my lower ribs for weeks, kept feeling like I might have broke something took about a month before I used another one again. Good news I learned real fast that bo matter who's table saw your going to use always check that it's set up correctly, which I did take the time to do for my friend.

What a timely video I am making a temporary hoist to get my new table saw upright (the top is bloody heavy). Then after its upright and I've got it all together these adjusting ideas will come in handy. I'm gonna have fun with making a zero clearance throat because like my old Ryobi (what a piece of ... That is) it's screwed in so to change anything under the table requires undoing screws arrrgh.

I know there are many ways to do most things but I would make 2 changes in your methods: 1. Only loosen 3 of the 4 bolts to change blade alignment to miter slots. Pivot the saw table around the 4th bolt to change alignment. 2. I align the fence using the miter slots that you have already made parallel to the saw blade. Move the fence near you until there is no gap at the miter slot, tighten the fence and see if you can feel a gap at the far end and adjust as necessary if there is a gap.

Neil - good video, well made and well described. Minor comment - there is a better way to lock the featherboard into the mitre slot. Just run a narrow longitudinal kerf through the two countersunk screw holes in the runner. As you tighten down the wing nuts, the countersunk screws expand the runner and lock it in place. No need for the extra two lock screws. Not my idea - found it elsewhere.

one other important tune up is to shim the table when the blade is tilted at 45. a table that even slightly dips at either end will effect the angle of tilted cuts, if you’re only doing non tilted cuts it doesn’t matter.

You could do that or just do it the way I did, it's not like it took long or was difficult. Actually it was probably easier by the time you've stuck the template on and set your router up. :)
@shrikedecil
@shrikedecil 4 жыл бұрын
Featherboard thought: There's the "lock the slide" screws, and the "lock the featherboard" screws. They can actually be combined *very* easily. Add thin slot to space between the two "lock the featherboard" screws *after* threading a screw through. Now when the tapered screws are pulled tight, they also press the wood *out*. So one tightening instead of two.
@PaskMakes
@PaskMakes 4 жыл бұрын
Yes they could and I've locked a slide like that before. However what I've found is the bolt keeps spinning when you try to turn it and it's difficult to lock down with any real pressure. Also it's not the easiest thing to make a thin cut in the middle of the slide, it's much easier this way and took literally 2 minutes to do. Of course you need a screwdriver but they're at hand in a workshop, they take a few seconds to tighten and it isn't something you're constantly adjusting. I reckon this is easiest, quickest way and locks down very tight. When I put the bolts in to lock the featherboard down, I made the holes a very tight fit and threaded the bolts through. They don't turn at all when tightening the wing nuts, but that wouldn't work how you're mentioning as the bolt spreads the kerf. :)
@shrikedecil
@shrikedecil 4 жыл бұрын
@@PaskMakes Can't argue with the ease or available tools aspects, just coming from more of the metal-working side and what I had instead. So I was using countersunk machine screws into a metal slide. Drop of Loctite in there if needed, and an actual knob for the top. :D You do great work btw.

Hi there, thanks for the brilliant videos. Having said that, I do have a slight problem with this vid...you say that adjusting the table relative to the base will sort out a blade parallellism issue. On my contractor's saw, (and on every one I've seen) the only way to do that is to adjust the trunions. I know you have a cabinet saw, but people who own contractor's saws should be aware of this.

I'm sure that I'm not the only one to say this, but a kerf cut between the two bolts holding the featherboard to the rail would expand the rail when tightened, not needing additional screws. I learned this from a commercially made featherboard I have.
@PaskMakes
@PaskMakes 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! When I've done that in the past I've found it unsatisfactory, the bolt always seems to turn as you're trying to tighten the wing nut. I reckon this way is quick and easier than trying to cut a kerf in the middle of the bar too. Both ends took literally 2 minutes to do and they lock down tight. :)

Another noob commenting. I've been thinking about your observation that using the metal insert as a template with a bearing guided profile cutter on the router table left the resultant piece a smidge too small. Could you install the router bit with a bearing a tiny bit bigger than the bit so that it enlarged the resulting piece and therefore giving you a lovely tight fit?

Please, by god, reedo the adjustment on your fence. The fence should be slightly of parallel at the end, so the chance reduces that something jams between fence and sawblade is. In Germany we learned it at a safety machining workshop. Sorry for my bad English skills 😅

After cutting a single thing strip, rather than readjust the fence each time, would it work to just readjust once after the first cut to account for the Kreg and then use the already cut strips as spacers against the fence? I worry that once there are too many loose strips that maybe they'd slip against each other and not give firm contact with the fence, but I wonder if it would be ok for a few strips at a time. Are there tips or trade knowledge about this?

for the zero clearance insert, I always just lower the blade all the way down and put the blank/uncut insert in the saw, slide the fence overtop of the insert and lock it in place ensuring it is not at all overtop of the blade. finally, power on the saw and make a plunge cut (basically, but upside-down and from underneath) by raising the blade thru the insert. total missed oppurtunity: "oi, g'day, mate, it's the plung-uh from down und-uh method!"
