Hello! I found this really helpful for my OSCEs next week, thank you so much! I had a q for when speaking to the examiner - do you recommend we pass comments to the examiner about what signs we are looking for in the pt (i.e. acropachy in the hands)? Will we be marked down if we don't explicitly say the sign but make it obvious that we were looking for it? Again, thank you!!

Hi! I am really glad you found it useful and thanks so much for commenting and providing me with feedback!! It varies depending on what medical school you are at, but saying what you are looking for is good because then the examiner knows exactly what you are looking for and can give you the marks without any confusion/hesitation. Hope that helps! All the best with your exams!

Hello, I have my OSCE in July - I’m working on history taking techniques - Is highlighting key questions a good method to pass these stations? For example, A fall history would have to include questions regarding tongue biting, urinary incontinence and the account of before, during and after the fall.

Hi! Thanks for watching and for your comment! All the best for your OSCE I am sure you will do well!! I think when you are asking questions you always want to ascertain quickly if this is serious or not serious and rule out (or in) some red flags/serious conditions first. Perhaps creating a differential diagnosis for the presenting complaint such as - neuro i.e. seizures/epilepsy, cardio i.e. AF, resp i.e. PE and then this will help you ask the relevant questions. This is just one way to go about it. Yes you want to know as much detail as you can about events in the lead up to/during and after the fall and of course LOC/any witnesses etc. I hope this helps!!!!

Hi , I had a question for you please I am a final year student nurse. I had a pharmacology OSCE. I mentioned everything correct But panicked towards the end I asked if my answer could be changed to one of my drug calculations which is one of my essential criterias nothing was mentioned by my assessor & I am nervous they might not be considerate of my first answer ?
@DrPBaptiste

Hi, thanks for watching! It's difficult to say, usually the first answer is taken as correct. Hopefully you have done enough to pass your exam. All the best!!

Hi Paul! I am so sorry to hear that you have had COVID, I wish you a speedy recovery. If you are still not feeling well or able to sit your exams maybe informing your university could be an option? What exams are you sitting?

@@DrPBaptiste I am doing my advanced nursing practice. I have been in contact with the uni and they have been so supportive and have given me extra time on the day but have also said idmf by next week I'm struggling they will look at rescheduling. I'm hopeful this won't be required. I am incredibly lucky as I have a consultant mentor who is OUTSTANDING and she is also in contact with the uni and has said she is going to give me a mock osce and if she feels I'm not up to it she advise them.. I'm am truly lucky
