5th track from "Passage" (1981). Somehow-sandwiched in between playing on Michael Jackson's Off the Wall and Thriller albums-bass sensation Louis Johnson found time to record a Gospel/CCM album with his own group Passage. He was joined in this funk/R&B effort by his very lovely and talented wife Valerie Johnson and former Brothers Johnson percussionist/singer Richard Heath.
Every cut on the album is excellent (which is why I've added all nine tracks to my "Yacht Rock + Smooth CCM 6" playlist and will probably move one to the main playlist as well) but this particular cut has always been one of my favorites.
At first listen The Great Flood is a simple, even child-like song about Noah's ark.
However...
The lyrics include some rather intriguing lines: "I must destroy what I've created now / For it is not them, but a spirit / That leads them to destruction ... For it was the principalities of air / He could no longer stand there." The album's lyric sleeve goes on to list "Scriptures that helped inspire these songs found in the King James version of the Holy Bible," which for this particular song are: Genesis 6:1-22; Genesis 7:17-24; Ephesians 6:12; and Matthew 24:36-39, 42, 44.
While I can't speak for Johnson, I'll list some of my own thoughts and provide some links:
• Genesis 6 says there were giants in those days. These giants (Nephilim) were apparently the result of fallen angels impregnating human women. They would likely have been soulless, hybrid creatures who were just plain all-around bad guys, causing trouble for humans the world over. They were wiped out in the Great Flood. But after the flood they somehow reappeared and were part of the various tribes that stood in the way of the ancient Israelites entering the Promised Land. It was probably these tribes that God commanded Israel to wipe out mercilessly, as they represented a serious threat to the human race through which the Messiah would eventually come.

• The Book of Enoch goes into much more detail about the Nephilim and, although the Book of Enoch is not included in the Bible, the Bible quotes from the Book of Enoch, so it certainly has merit.
• 7 FACTS About the NEPH...
A question I have, and many people have, is can angels marry and/or procreate with humans? (Matthew 22:30, Mark 12:25) L.A. Marzulli and Chuck Missler point out that these Gospel passages do not say angels can't procreate; they merely say that angels do not marry in heaven. What fallen angels can and will do biologically is anyone's guess. They also remind us that God Himself by the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary. Thus it is possible at least that the supernatural realm can biologically interact with humans.
• Are there really skeletons of giants found all over the planet and covered up by mainstream science? Anyone who's heard guys like Steve Quayle, Michael Heiser, and L.A. Marzulli (especially on Coast to Coast AM in the middle of a spooky night!) will know what I'm talking about.

• The Flood has special relevance for Christian believers today. Jesus said, "But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." (Matt 24:37-39) Was this merely a reference to the way the people of Noah's time were distracted by their own wicked lives, or is there something much more specific?
• Are modern day "aliens" really demons? Is the apparent alien obsession with human DNA and reproduction a continuation of the ancient fallen angel desire to procreate with humans for a sinister purpose?
Insights? Theories? Let me know your thoughts. Ciao! :)
