I sincerely appreciate this. I am usually the one to stand up against filming those in clear distress but this needs to be seen. Our country is still in the grips of some severe addiction crises. These individuals need support. To those who feel no empathy or choose to judge- you do not know what circumstances brought someone to that place. Once the cycle of dependence begins it’s so difficult to get yourself out.

The coroner reported complications: asphyxiation resulting from chokehold, synthetic marijuana, schizophrenia, & having a medical condition that all contributed to his death. The moral of this story is don’t protect anyone from violent confrontations no matter how vulnerable the victim is & especially if the offender is black. Got it. I have suffered this kind of assault while people just ignored this situation, while my infant was kicked in the head, due to a false assumption by teenagers. As a Flight Dispatcher....... I ask the flying public to stop waiting for others to take action in situations like this. Sometimes, YOU are the help that you may be waiting to come to the rescue. I'm not familiar with the FA's contract, but I'm sure they risk falling in the dog house with the company if they confront passengers. ( lawsuits ) Especially in this situation. The best the captain can do is declare an emergency and get on the ground as soon and safely as possible. Dispatch can advise ATC,authorities, and the airport for intended diversion. I'm surprised passengers didn't act quicker. Especially considering that their life and safety is now in peril. Ok. Rant over.

Having started out my career at the airport I too have been confronted by passengers and seen coworkers assaulted. Having to call the police many times. Most times, it's an uphill battle having the airline side with the employee. ESPECIALLY if caught on film. It can ve a bo-win as an airline employee these days.Given the amount of years people put in with airlines...good luck getting your job back if you lose it because you decided to 'confront' a passenger yet again having a meltdown at the airport, or on an airplane.

The crew is not supposed to put themselves in a position of being injured if the guy decides to strike them. Abas are supposed to restrain the guy while the cuffs are put on him.
