I'm not familiar with the FA's contract, but I'm sure they risk falling in the dog house with the company if they confront passengers. ( lawsuits ) Especially in this situation. The best the captain can do is declare an emergency and get on the ground as soon and safely as possible. Dispatch can advise ATC,authorities, and the airport for intended diversion. I'm surprised passengers didn't act quicker. Especially considering that their life and safety is now in peril. Ok. Rant over.

Most times, it's an uphill battle having the airline side with the employee. ESPECIALLY if caught on film. It can ve a bo-win as an airline employee these days.Given the amount of years people put in with airlines...good luck getting your job back if you lose it because you decided to 'confront' a passenger yet again having a meltdown at the airport, or on an airplane.

So many people talking about the flight attendants doing nothing have no clue what they were actually doing and are assuming they’re supposed to just go tackle the guy. The crew is not supposed to put themselves in a position of being injured if the guy decides to strike them. Abas are supposed to restrain the guy while the cuffs are put on him. The only thing crew did wrong was allow the guy to be strapped to the seat. If there was an emergency evacuation, he wouldn’t be able to get up and exit on his own

So you think those two things are mutually exclusive? That's like saying people choose to be homeless yet a lot of them have mental health issues that predate their homelessness. Plenty of people start using drugs because of preexisting mental issues. It's not one or the other.
