Mike was telling the story of why he wrote this song and it was so touching and emotional and funny so I've left it in the actual song starts at 4:31

Found this song after my father died and played this song at my fathers funeral, he died of lung cancer. Travelled his last journey across the country and spent his last days with his and grand kids. Uncanny. Beautiful lyrics

Passenger is such a nice guy...I really want to see him live and meet him...one of the few artists that truly cares about his fans, and isn't in it at all for the fame, just for the music because he truly loves it.

Passenger is a very accomplished performer, as well as being a top singer/songwriter, his amiable personality & easy audience interaction means that he has his audience eating from the palm of his hand, and boy, does he know how to tug at their heart strings!

Same. This is one of those songs where my relationship with it has changed as my life has progressed(in the same way as with the song Cats in the Cradle.. first I pictured myself as the son, but as time went on I became the father). It’s the same thing with this song. He’s such a good storyteller on so many levels. And he conveys emotion through his performances in a way that doesn’t feel contrived. That only serves to deep in the connection with his work.

I always wonder if the old guy on the bike ever heard this song or if the lung cancer got him before he got the chance. Also I love the way it looks like Passenger is standing in a huge cloud of cigarette smoke as he sings this.

I dreamed a music video for this song that follows the man's journey. We see him "lay his head on a motel bed" and get rosy dreamlike images of his children and grandchildren. The video ends tragically, with emergency vehicle lights flashing outside of the motel on the following rainy afternoon when he didn't come down to check out. So beautifully sad.

If you don’t cry during this then you’re not human… or maybe just haven’t experienced sorrow before/yet.
