We know pilots I wouldn't want to give my car keys to so I bet a motivated properly trained kid could drive a plane.

Cool video, my situation is reversed. My son is a pilot and when he takes me flying I want to take the controls and make a bunch of jet fighter sounds 😂

I found kids or older with home game flight simulator experience transitioned to the real thing with very little problems.

I can see where simulator experience would really help.

I fly kids during EAA Young Eagles events. I usually ask in the little person (and sometimes not so little person) in the front seat next to me, if they want to fly for a little while. 9 times out of 10 they say yes. Several kids have then realized that they have flown a plane before they have driven a car.

That's really cool! Thanks for sharing.

There is no minimum age to learn how to fly but you do have at be at least 16 yrs old to solo and to get a student pilots certificate.

Hard to say. Maybe find someone in the career or company you want to work for and ask the best flight school path? Wish you best of luck! It's worth it 😀

There's another channel out there that was doing videos for a while with a dad and his 6 year old daughter flying some complex aircraft (I forget the type at the moment). An audio clip got picked up by VASAviation, and the controversy forced them to make the videos private, but for that short time when the videos were public, it was really cool to watch the 6 year old taking controls, flipping switches, and even doing the radio calls while sitting in a booster seat. Everything was done safely, the dad told the kid exactly what to say on he radio for her to repeat, but she started to learn the systems of the aircraft over time. People can be surprised how much young children can take in

Oh I remember that! I had searched for those videos recently and never found them, so that explains it. You are right, kids are sponges...

They pulled them down but are back. I think the FAA had a problem with the booster seat.

When I was in 7th grade, our school had a teacher that was going through his PPL training. All through training, he was able to sit on a Buffalo Phone Book. When he went to take his checkride to get the full license, the new instructor forbade the phone book and he didn't get the license. I don't know if he ever tried to find a 3rd instructor to finalize it. I only know what he told me.
@J1Aviation7 ай бұрын
Oh man that would be frustrating to have to stop because the new instructor wouldn't allow it! I would think if you can manipulate the controls and be buckled in correctly it should be fine, but maybe there is some regulation against it, can't think of it though. Hopefully he was able to continue.

I would also add it's important to brief possibly obvious but important things such as the need for gentle inputs as it may not be obvious to someone who has never had any experience like that. It also probably wouldn't hurt to guard the controls like a CFI would just to prevent any sudden pushes or pulls unintentional or otherwise.
