Long story short, the Hoss concept is where the number 2 receiver runs a seam pattern, while the number 1 runs a hitch. This route combination is good to run against cover 3 - Theoretically, it would be good against Single High defenses because you would throw the hitch vs soft corners in cover 1 man - while against cover 1 press, the hitch should convert his route into a fade pattern {We have to hot route our hitches into fades when we see press looks}
The main purpose of this video was the beautiful insight given from the Patriots who would run "Hoss Y Juke" when Brady was with them.
Biggest thing to understand here, is that, whenever a defense is in a double high safety defense - your number 3 will get one on one matchups with mike linebacker. Thinking about this, why not put your shiftiest receiver at the number 3 to exploit that matchup?!
Or - why not attack the Mike linebacker in space with studs like A. Kamara in those instances knowing that he's matched up one on one with the linebacker.
Watch the video, and you will see why your understanding on a lot of passing plays in your playbooks will blossom after understanding this.
