'buying opportunity' for companies that can weather higher interest rates and a slow economy...I kinda like Smart Centers these days. banks. health care. I'm down about 12%.
@JamesBrown-ug2tm2 жыл бұрын
Banks actually are a downside when rates go up. Less investment = less rev. The low rates was a huge revenue boost, as you can see it in the ER'S. Plus the federal government passed a slight tax increase on cnd banks. I'm buying the dip.

Adriano PERFECT my friend. The timing of this topic is impeccable! The subjects listed are logical, common sense and an important reminder of why we are passive investors in the first place. The reassurance is necessary to hear from you around this time. Really nice of you to mention and use examples when explaining about dollar cost averaging, and mentioning 19 market pullbacks and that this is OK and to hang in there. I really enjoy listening to video's. Thanks so much from Atlantic Canada!👍🇨🇦

I can't remember if I heard Warren Buffet say it, or if it was Peter Lynch, or if I read it in the book "the intelligent investor" but, I've learned to call it a "correction" not a recession. Our government started printing money increasing the money supply to pay for things like vaccines, and CERB and 'donations' to Ukraine etc. causing inflation. The Bank of Canada has just raised interest rates to help retract the money supply and correct inflation. Happens all the time. "the market always corrects"

Since I am new to income investing ,I am sticking with Canoe EIT, HDIF,HDIV and HYLD and reinvesting the dividends received into them,as well as the ones coming from my commom stocks. Still keeping RS,ENS and GDV on my radar.as they are lower risk split share funds as far as I understand

I worked in the "biz" for over 30 yrs. There is a quote from the Wolf of Wall Street. “Nobody knows if a stock’s going up, down or f*ck*ng sideways, least of all stockbrokers. But we have to pretend we know.” - Mark Hanna. This is so true. Invested during a few corrections. The best "method" is like Adrian says stick with the blues they always bounce back. Or you could panic sell and let me pick up a few good deals!

I really appreciate your encouraging, informative videos. You echo what I say to myself though with less conviction because I'm still very new to this and not as confident as I hope to grow to be. I keep learning. I also don't hold cash, just enough to pay the bills and I use other people's free money whenever possible to pay those bills (credit cards with cash back, never pay interest). I've cut off dozens of channels in the last year, but especially the screaming negative ones of late. I don't need that worry and I do love the red days for the opportunities. THANK YOU!

See, I don't have tons of money, and I keep a 10k of emergency cash in common fund of hisa giving out 4% without fees, and another 5k in cash ETFs (and the new CBIL of 1-3 T-Bonds Can) giving between 4 and 5% with a 0.15% MER. I need that emergency fund, and I don't to invest all my money at once. Maybe I'm gonna think differently if interest rates go back to near 0%. I pay income tax just once a year so I have to put that amount aside.

Last month I looked into your suggestions and had on a chart about high Unit Navs, like GDV, ENS, and RS. I nibbled a bit on each. Well, recently received the income from them, including HDIV. With Spb added because I could not find a split corp or etf that had spb, a total of $1000 dollars extra per month rolled in! I plan on nibbling a bit more this month as well, and to by before the ex divvy dates so to get the payout the following month. It feels fantastic seeing that extra income roll in! Partial positions are a good thing at the moment. Something you referred to as dollar cost averaging by investing every month or so. I am hoping the prices will keep going down even more! Great topic and really important to discuss especially around these down market times. Keep up the great work and thoughtful presentation Adriano! Cheers, from East Canada!

Good video! Woukd you be able to review the qyld and xyld actual option they sell. I saw on the last few months the option they sold lost a significant amount, and also don't see it on the cash position when they do sell the option. Do they have a fund to cover these options they sell wether they make or loss money on the options. In one month the option got over large amount if they had to buy it at the time. I am looking at the mechanics of these funds, and where the cash goes every month.
@PassiveIncomeInvesting2 жыл бұрын
They sell an index option . It s a bit different that options on single companies . And yes they have the cash required in case it gets called . The monthly income can vary based on many factors , you cannot say “ it goes down or up”
@gengydagenais32842 жыл бұрын
@@PassiveIncomeInvesting Adrian, if you look at their holdings for qyld, the last item is the option they sold but you don't see the cash they took in should be listed in their holdings. You can compare the option during the month, last month at a point the option was $200M more then the options sold. How do they cover that since they have to buy it before expiration. I trade options everyday, so this is a mystery to me!

@@PassiveIncomeInvesting I will write a google sheet for you to follow along next month, you will see the action of the sold call during the month and the effects on the ETF, on the way up its a real limiting force against the stock gains in the portfolio, thats why QYLD is not moving that much compare NDX . The mechanical part is the issue for them. Others like Hdiv plan the process which is much better solution, so does Jepi and many of the funds you follow. Depends on what you invest in and you’ve got to factor in the dividends as well. Growth stocks are beaten down right now so collecting monthly income is a win.
@MrChepburn2 жыл бұрын
Nonsense! That is an extremely short term view - the strategy is long term. With most of these funds you would earn back the principal amount in dividends alone in 7 years or less. A theoretical loss of 20% on paper is not "erosion of capital" when the whole market is down at least 20%! When the market bounces back in time your capital will go back even higher if you have been investing regularly and reinvesting your dividends because your costs have been averaging down.

No one has a crystal ball. Listening to the latest Sam Harris Making Sense podcast titled 'The End of Global Order' with guests Peter Zeihan and Ian Bremmer, Peter suggests the nationalism we're seeing along with the unrest could lead to a very difficult time. I would suggest seeking out prepper channels if you're convinced The Big One is about to happen. The markets will be inconsequential, meaningless. Meanwhile, passive income with Adrian is what this channel is about.
