If you're in a third world country, never get into a fight or even a dispute. It'll only get worse and you'll either get beaten up or end up paying them and the police, maybe both or put in a cell. Everybody is corrupt. You need to have an attitude where you are friendly to everyone, smiling and being generous. I remember giving a tip to the guy from the hotel in the Philippines for hailing a taxi and loading my case into the boot. He said he could take his wife to the cinema. That was enough to buy a beer in my country but you have to remember the daily struggle these people face. Be generous but if you feel someone is trying to exploit you, always pay for the food and drinks bill but don't see them anymore the following day. It'd not like at home where you demand to see the manager and argue over a drink you didn't order. I'm not into paying for bedroom fun, better to spend time with the same person getting to know them. But be clear about what money is expected whatever you're doing.
