A huge part of the problem is the downgrading of music* that same year when the Beatles came to the U.S., L.B.J. was elected President, and he put into practice ( with helpers in the House & Senate ) his "Great Society" plan. That plan invented the modern welfare state. Instead of getting a job and working for a living, people could get money and food and housing for doing nothing. No respect for your elders or your betters, because everyone is "equal". Just the year before the numbus skullus so-called Justices on the USSC decided that a whining, nasty atheist woman named O'Hare who hated God should not have her boys in a schools that prayed at the beginning of the school day. I was there in 3rd Grade that day. The Teacher said about 8 am: "Sorry kids: The Supreme Court says that we cannot pray anymore at school". When people are not reminded that there is a God in Heaven who knows what people are doing, then they are more likely to act like monkeys in a zoo. I noticed that within a year, the discipline and attitudes of the students was slipping. By the Junior High School time things were really bad. By 9th Grade the School District quit "Corporal Punishment" (a wooden paddle administered by the Shop teachers, The P.E. teachers/Coaches and the Vice Principals) were put away. The hair and dress codes were done away with. Immediately the use of drugs went up, and City Cops had to come to the school, {The S.D. had forbidden the "Corporal Punishment" anymore, sooooo "When the cat is away, the mouse will play". Libertines and anarchists pop-up all over the place.} Some girls were transferred to special "Pregnant Student" campuses. The wicked, foul communist / atheist M.M. O'Hare got her wishes, thanks to some guys in Black Robes at the Supreme Court,,,, who, later in 1973 decided that there is a so-called "Right to Privacy" in the U.S. Constitution ( There is NOT! ), And therefore it is okay to kill an unborn baby in the womb. The nation has been on a downhill slide since then. { BTW - one of her sons became a Christian later on and totally repudiated everything his mother and his brother stood for. } * In this "Password" episode the PW was "Orchestra". The man contestant said for a clue: "Mantovani" and L. Bacall got it right. Nowadays, 2022, if the clue was "Mantovani" somebody would think it was an Italian menu item.

society was trash back then. all these "classy" and sophisticated Hollywood people had horrific lives, the entire generation had closets full of skeletons and those skeletons ruined the lives of generations to come. the only difference in people now is that there is a chance for people to find happiness instead of forcing to conform to society - even now, society is trash but lets stop romanticizing the past and enjoy it for what it was.

@@gusloader123 O'Hare was such a wonderful patriot. She put up with remarkable abuse in order to ensure that freedom of religion also meant freedom from state forced religion. She is a tribute to America's founding father's and she, along with Jane Roe, were two of the most important people of the twentieth century. They turned Americans away from closed minded ignorant obedience to individuals with liberty and choice. If only the quality of education in the US and around the world was such that people understand individual liberty and freedom means having the right to make choices, even when others might think the choice is wrong or a sin. Instead we have a bunch of aging, whiny baby boomers who find it overwhelming and want to go back to being sheep. It's almost funny.

Dazzling! Doug Fairbanks AND Bacall. Fairbanks was SO cool, a war hero, a charmer and so classy that English Royalty fought over who got to invite him to their homes. BACALL... wow... she got into this mock 'fight' with Allen which was SO sexy and cool and her way of flirting. I thought it was hilarious when she gave away 'mustache' by twirling an invisible mustache where the audience and ALL of America could see but NOT Allen! Then they give her the word 'whistle' which was her most famous line she said in her first movie to Bogie "You know how to whistle, just put your lips together and blow." That is why she was laughing so hard. And through all those years of ridiculous 60's hair styles her classic Bacall 'do' looks as classy now as it did then. Wow.

Ellen Gregory, I don’t think it’s true. She was an intellectual and a perfectionist. Perhaps she wouldn’t put up with mediocrity and crap. Often, people like that come across as bitchy and difficult to people with no such high standards who cannot see the point in being perfect. But diva she was not. To qualify as a Diva requires quite a bit of vanity which the off-screen LB didn’t have. In fact, she was very down to earth and disliked vane people.

That is why their motto was: "N.B.C. - Proud as a Peacock", and then the NBC Peacock would fan his feathers, in color. 🙂 Starting in 1954, NBC broadcast the Rose Parade. By 1957 all of their programs were in color. RCA made the color TV sets. N.B.C. was owned by R.C.A.. By about 1966 ABC & CBS were also broadcasting in Color. Not all local Stations were set up for color broadcasting. A different gizmo-thingy-something was needed.

Because NBC was owned by RCA who made the first color sets, they began to heavily promote color programs. It is one reason why "Bonanza" survived a disastrous first year ratings-wise in the early 60's. In contrast, CBS and ABC which didn't make televisions were loathe to promote their rival's product so they clung to b&w programming longer than might have been wise (and Password was on CBS). Also ABC was hurting for money and it took them longer to come up with the money to switch to color.
