I was thinking the very same thing. For a normal person who went of the good road, one time in jail is forgivable. But if that one time in jail didn't straighten you out, you are not the type of person that should be welcomed. In jail (gaol) everyday is is its own nightmare. A normal person would make sure they didn't do anything that would put them back in the "clink".

Things I've learned watching Border Security: 1) Declare everything, if unsure, tick yes!; 2) Don't bring anything into another country that is food or drugs! 3) Don't assume you can visit another country with any kind of criminal past. If you have a criminal record, go to the embassy or consulate and get approved first BEFORE leaving the country. 4) Why do people think laws in their own country apply to the country they are going to? Research it!

The traveler with the camera has a point. Just because it’s old and his wife gave it to him from their house doesn’t mean that he hast to declare it because it might not have any value to him. It might just be something he uses to take pictures with. Canada seems to think that everything everybody has has monetary value.

Putting the guy's criminal history aside, I think he didn't present his case properly. Didn't the narrator say it was his first time for meeting his girlfriend? That’s nit possible when you’re going to a country that doesn’t require a Visa. For a country that requires an entry Visa that you can’t get at the arrival airport, the airline at your departure airport will ask to see your passport and Vida. If you don’t have it, then they won’t let you on the plane. Otherwise, booking a ticket online is not the checkpoint for a Visa. You could always get the required Visa after booking your ticket.
@crazypete3759
@crazypete3759 Жыл бұрын
@@randyholloway920 there is already a criminal database that keeps track of everyone's criminal convictions. This should be merged with airlines. So if someone is trying to purchase a ticket to another country that has restrictions for criminal convictions, the person would not be able to book the trip or would get a warning saying they must first contact the consulate and get prior approval to enter the country

The Ukrainian guy is right* *Yes, if it was a gift from his wife it doesn’t really matter if it was a gift or not. BUT Working in retail, I’ve learned lots of elderly people, foreigners, or non-native speakers have a hard time understanding fine print, for example: “No Ma’am, you need to buy 3 or more of this item to get the sales price.” “No sir, when you say ‘package’ we think you mean the FedEx package drop-off, not where the ‘packages’ of batteries are.” “No Ma’am, we can’t take your word for how much this item costs, you need to tell us what fruit or vegetable this is so we can find the code and weigh it.” “No sir, this item’s price is measured by quantity, not weight.” “The sale will come off at the end, just wait, and if it doesn’t come off, you can go to the service desk so you can get a refund. No, you cannot get refunds processed at the cash register, please refer to the service desk.” We aren’t giving you a hard time, you’re making things hard for yourself with your attitude and bone-headedness.

I guess Canada doesn't have "Communal Property Laws. I would never guess that I would have to declare something that my wife gave me, since what I have is hers, and what's hers is mine. I always thought that Canada was "progressive ", but they are far tougher than the USA is regarding immigration. Funny thing is, many Canadians say that that the USA is "Xenophobic ". I was invited to speak at a Canadian anti-fraud conference. Even though I was invited by the RCMP, the immigration examination was far more brutal than any of the 85 other countries that I have been to, even the Communist and Authoritarian Dictatorships. Not complaining or saying what they are doing is wrong. It just makes me wonder why people say that the USA is too strict with the immigration rules. The USA should be more like Canada, to be honest. When I went to the UK in 1996, on my way to the USA, while returning from Nigeria, Ghana and Sierra Leone, the Immigration Officer asked what kind of work I did in Africa. When I told him that I was an international fraud investigator, he came out of his little booth and HUGGED ME, saying, "GOD Bless You!, We are very happy to welcome you to the United Kingdom". By the way, the immigration officer was of Nigerian descent.

@16:03 Who is paying for that skull's additional disinfection by a taxidermist? As I see it, if the skull was not acceptable for entry, the importer should have been given the option to either have it destroyed, or of paying to have it properly disinfected by the CBSA before it was released back to the hands of the importer. CBSA is acting like tax dollars are up for charitable donations for people that don't follow import protocols. With Canada having had issues like Mad Cow Disease in the past, which has caused farmers to kill multiple animals, and caused a financial burden on all beef farmers, and the rest of Canadians, following import protocols on beef or beef products should not be taken lightly, and no leniency should be shown on that matter. Soon enough, people will learn that they can't bend those rules.

What they were trying to say is ownership is meaningless. To them, they just want to know if it has already been taxed. If you bought it in Canada, the answer is yes. If it was bought outside of Canada (doesn't matter by who), it hasn't been and they want to collect it. You are given an $800 exemption though if your trip is longer than 48 hours, which that camera obviously would be under. This was just filler material for the show because they were short. Always a good idea though to tick that box and put in some non-zero value that's under the exemption limit. Putting in zero is just an invitation.
