Civilian targets?Hiroshima was a strategic target and Mitsubishi shipyard was located in Nagasaki 💀

@@heisenberg7415 bro, those bombs wiped out 32-39% of those cities population respectively. These bombing were done knowing the absolute wasteland it would leave behind. The target committee in Washington said “it was agreed that psychological factors in the target selection were of great importance. Two aspects of this are 1. Obtaining the greatest psychological effect against Japan and 2. Making the initial use sufficiently spectacular for the importance of the weapon to be internationally recognised when publicity on it is released.” And they explained further that “Hiroshima has the advantage of being such a size and with possible focussing from nearby mountains that a large fraction of the city may be destroyed.” While I admit that the industries and bases located there were significant to the Japanese war effort, you can’t disregard the psychological warfare that the americas were using in their bombings. They knew what kind of damage and destruction they would cause for the civilian population but they just didn’t see them as important enough. In fact they saw them as a tool to force Japan to surrender quicker (as much of the bombing done during ww2 were meant to do).

Kokura was the original target but the weather there was bad so they just decided to drop it on Nagasaki No amount of military importance demeans the fact that either people got incinerated or died of radiation poisoning.
