I never see anyone ever talk about how smart hiccup actually is. He overcame his societal norms because he knew they were wrong and invented several things despite his limited resources and knowledge. (Same goes to his mother)

i just had a random idea for how the httyd would go if the nightmare that chased Hiccup at the begining, destroying everything, just abducted him to the red death, but because of how different he is from the food dragons bring, the red death just... adopts him. Like, what if when the red death's heir/ child died so when she adopts Hiccup as her "heir" she stops being so aggressive and calms down and becomes a better queen and more picky about food, so the other dragons hunt the vikings less and fish more, and it in general becomes a better home for them. And because of this hiccup, using his creative mind and blacksmith abilities, makes a way for him to safely fly and none of the dragons are mean or rude to him, because he is technically their saviour as he brought queen back from her mouring. And one day years later, when Hiccup finally gets the red death to go flyinig with him instead of with his "guards" they come accross valka, and so the two co-parent hiccup, because the red death recognises her as his original mother but instead of fighting to death, because both valka and hiccup learn the dragon dialect (though they dont speak it due to their different voice boxes) from the amount of time they spent with them, they come to the agreement of both pareneting him, despite him being like 21 at the time.
