Past Lives - Tempelhof Airport // Berlin Stories for NPR

I lived at Tempelhof Central Airport during the first half of the 1980s. To this day, I still consider Tempelhof as my home. I have lived nowhere that I loved as much as that beautiful building. The history, the engineering wonder of it, and the warmth that it displays with such grace. People have hometowns, family farms, birthplaces...I have Tempelhof.

I lived at Templehof central airport (USAF Barracks ) for the 1st Year of my millitary assignment which was 1968-1972. I loved it there. we had Col Gale Halvorson as our Base commander. He was in the Berlin Airlift... a great Officer ! I will always have Fond memories of Berlin !!!!!!!!!

I was in the 1946th Comm Squadron; My workplace was on the 6th Floor,past the gym in "Electronic Operations or EL as it was also referred to. I lived on the 6th floor only a few yards away from work !

I worked a this base from 61 to 64. We had a MI spl ops station there, great duty.
