Lloyd's life just sucks. He's trapped in a loop that existed before he was born and will exist after he dies, hundreds of years from now. (Years that he'll see first hand due to his bloodline) He can't stop, can't retire, but he knows that it still doesn't truly matter, because he can't actually win. He can fight all he wants, the darkness will always come back. It will always return, and until his last breath he must be the light that outshines it. On a more personal note, he is trapped in a simular loop with his father. He will fight Garmadon's darkness, give him a reason to be good, but in the end, Lloyd is always forced to kill him and when Garmadon returns, he's forced to start over in his efforts to seperate the father who loves him from the darkness he's drowning in. Even when he succeeded and Garmadon was free, he was forced to let his father die in order to save Ninjago. Twice. Then, he has to start over, only it's gotten harder. I can't blame him for trying to give up. This is the only loop he might have a choice in, where if he just doesn't reach out it might hurt less to let him go. But he can't really give up on Garmadon, because he loves him. He can't shut down Garmadon's limited efforts because as much as it hurts him to give Garmadon a chance, he can't face the idea of letting his father go. Of looking at his face and convincing himself that his dad is gone in every way that matters.
