Sir, you said that "HAD" should be placed at first then after a simple Past tense. Then why, "I reached the examination hall after the exam had begun."

Whenever there are 2 actions in past. The first action should be in past perfect tense(HAD). Here the exam began is first action and I reached is 2nd action sequence wise.
