The original Palermitan pasta! It is the same as my mom's pasta! Compliments from Palermo, Sicily.

As a american- sicilian I never went for the pine nuts in this dish. As far as the toasted bread crumbs, absolutely.
@tomcolicinojr.26413 жыл бұрын
What happened to the toasted bread crumbs? (Yum!) :)
@ChrisJohnsonCJs-Kitchen12 жыл бұрын
What a great concept for a blog! Where do you find all the Nonna's? FYI - maybe you were just asking what Saffron was for the sake of folks watching who don't know - but just in case anyone wanted a more specific answer - it's the stamen's of the saffron crocus flower. If you go to an Indian grocer you can purchase it much more affordably than at your local grocery store.

Delicious - and Rosella is beautiful remember to squeeze to get that beautiful juice

Cute: bucato means laundry - buco means hole; extra virgin olive oil is when the olives are pressed for the very first time; saffron are the little red thread like strings in the middle of the crocus flower. Gotta try this dish though. Looks good!

Dish looks really good . That’s the only reason why I continued to watch . Grandma is great . Young woman is beyond annoying .

Currants are NOT grapes))) They are berries that grow in colder climates. Popular in Europe. Can be black or red. The latter is more tart. Very popular in jams and preserves. FYI.

The pasta looks well done. Is that how they do it in Sicily? And why not put the pasta directly into the sauce to amalgamate the two components?

Yep that's exactly what Chef John does on food wishes videos ..

Best nonna on your show ever ! but you gotta simmer down a bit when a sicilian lady is talking , and learn something , there so much to be said about a good sicilian dish , and u wanted to hear about her pre-marital endeavors , tisk tisk !

Saffron are fronds from orchids, which is why they are so expensive. Ground turmeric would give you almost the same.

It's nice to see how recipes evolve in time and space; even if the Sicilians criticise this preparation, it is still close to the one prepared here in Palermo. Locals (Scilians) dislike any preparation different from the one their mom's (or other close relatives). nasuki.guru

I remember her saying don't mash up the sardines too much so that the silver shows up better and looks good ..

Any opinions here on whether she made the dish using fresh sardines or canned? Looked more like fresh sardines from what I could see. Lighter, pinker flesh?
