Same. It's less messy than trying stuff like in the video. As for saving pasta water, you could either use a ladle to transfer to another bowl, or put the strainer on top of a bowl or pot to collect it.

Welcome to Scandinavia, most kitchen sinks have integrated colander which is very easy to use without thinking about anything. Just pour and then grab the colander and pour into sauce, or the bowl you make carbonara in.. This has been standard for many years now. I think IKEA was starting it, and still have the most elegant solutions.

My grandpa made a colander and a grater for my grandma by making holes at the bottom of a very old used nearly punctured pan(colander), and at the side of half of a good sturdy tin can(grater)😅. One had 90⁰ holes, other had 30⁰ holes. He pounded the pan flat and polished it flat. He polished the protrusions of the tin can as sharp as he cıuld but didn't flatten them. Being a kid was such an experience then. İn summer holidays, we went to grandparents s village. No electricity, no water in the house, we kids were water carriers back then 😅😅😅.

I always just put the lid tilted and then a folded towel from one ear to the other over the lid gripping that, and my Dad† would sometimes put a colander in the sink when his hands felt unsteady. ^^
