I have not read all the comments but it seems a lot of "spicy" foods appear in southern regions of the world. Chilies grow better in those climates and people tend to not just enjoy it but it cools the body off in hotter climates. I grew up in the North of USA but I love spice. Some people consume it just to prove something . Different chilies have distinct flavors not just heat.
@DedoAglar
@DedoAglar 3 жыл бұрын
I think that derives from a question of necessity: the foods in hot regions were more difficult to keep, they went bad early and, a little to eliminate bad tastes and smells, a little to eliminate a lot of bacteria, they used heavy chilli

It’s actually a very nice process! My grandma does it as well! She grows her own peperoncini, and when there’s enough she takes a needle and some thick thread, and she basically saws the chili together. She hangs them and lets them sun dry, when they’re completely dry, you blitz them in a food processor till they’re a very fine powder! She also makes them into a spicy oil, but I’ve got no idea how she does that 😂 even though that’s my favorite

@@RM-se2nw Chili oil is very easy to make: dry any type of hot peppers you like. I use chile de árbol or espuela de gallo, because those are the ones I have readily available. You can also buy dry peppers, either árbol or Chinese hot peppers work as well. Grind them with the seeds and mix the powder with your favorite oil. I use olive oil and sesame seed oil, too. The amounts will depend on how spicy you want your chili oil. Let it rest for several days before using it.

I would have gave him a a simple fried pepper from my grandmothers garden. She always claimed they weren’t spicy but they so spicy your fingers would burn from touching them (learned that the hard way)

Love Papa Turi style! It reminds me so much of my Mother's Family. They are from Sicily amd have a love of heat and spice. Lots of red pepper and spicy dishes. Harper, you should be proud of how far you've come! That's not an embarrassing photo. Eva, do you know if you can but Calabrian pepper seeds or is it a protected and restricted crop? I have some Scorpion and Chocolate Reaper peppers I am growing but would love to try and grow some of those!

I don't make much of anything without hot peppers, including anything with dark chocolate, and even oatmeal cookies. People think peppers all taste just hot. No. The different varieties have distinct flavors. When I met my husband 52 years ago he thought adding two drops of tabasco sauce to anything made him a roaring superman. He's progressed not quite to my heat level of enjoyment but I'm proud of him. A story about how I got into 'hot sauce'.......when I was a kid in the 50's there was only tabasco available in the hot sauce market and my mother used to douse my mouth with it when I was 'sassy' - as a 5 year old. I quickly aquired a taste for it so she switched to soap. I never aquired a taste for soap. But I've stayed sassy all my life. Bring on the hot sauce!
