What a nice ending for a change. So many forlorn ruins out there all clad in ivy waiting to collapse. I guess it is one of the few examples of restoring a near complete ruin. A very brave venture and I wish there were more like this. Maybe there should be a ban on building new large houses in order to encourage restoring the many ruins that dot the countryside. Not practical I know but just a thought. Maybe tax breaks are the answer as it would promote employment and the teaching of old and new skills. Thank you once again.

Lawrence of Arabia was the natural son of Lord Chapman, it has been said he wanted to purchase it and restore it. My ancestors worked on the Estate. I was told the last owner, American widow, stripped it out and took it back to the USA. My cousin wrote a book about Clonmellon and includes photographs of interior, he gives a different account of its demise.
