I like the pastel goth look but I think its important to add your own twist on everything. If you're like me some days you wanna be cute and some days you wanna look scary-cute Then whatever, do what you want. You don't have to fit into some category. If you wanna wear all pink and blues and purples one day, and blacks and other dark colors the next, then why cant you? I think what I like most about pastel goth is that it doesn't really have a music group. Where as sometimes in the goth communities specially on sites like Vampirefreaks you'd definitely get judged for listening to things like ponponpon and not knowing who Blood on the Dance Floor are. :c I used to cam on the chats a lot and was kinda well known but all the judgement on that site is usually cruel and I decided I didn't want friends like that. I've debated getting back online with my new pastely kind of look but I'd probably be an outcast among outcast so..

bubblegum goth is the term used for a goth who dresses in alot of mostly bubblegum blue, bubblegum purple and bubblegum pink. where i think some have ended up calling it pastel goth incorrectly due to bubblegum colors being basically pastel. confuseing the old term bubblegum goth with the hipster 'goths' second name "pastel goth", though their oringanal term nu goth is more common;y used then their second term pastel goth

A shop I would recommend is the rusty zip it does a little of everything for everyone and is super cheap and easy to find your own style. I don't know how popular it is or if they have an online shop but give it a go :) the shop does tend to smell like weed though but all well. ;)

I actually manage to pull of pastel goth by having vampyre red and silver hair. It's just how you style your clothes, makeup and hair that makes the look complete. It's a DYI style. And there is no rule that says you need pastel/white hair to do it. Or black hair for the matter. :)

@Scarlett Watson Yes, it's alright if you don't dress in black all the time. being "goth" is all about being yourself and being creative. I'd like to change my style and dress more gothic every day but my work limits me from wearing lots of jewelry, float things, etc. for me, I like to mix grunge, goth, and pastel goth when I do feel motivated to dress that way. it's cute and stylish, yet cool and comfortable.

It DOES have grunge elements, which is why its categorized under goth. Youre probably thinking of fairy kei, is more like a japanese version of pastel goth (not saying its related to its each other) but has absolutely no grunge elements, yet some categorize fairy kei as pastel goth so theres the confusion.

Thanks for the explanation! I actually found your video searching for what pastel goth is because one of my mermaid photos (I'm a professional mermaid) was cropped by someone (they cropped out my face and torso and my website photo watermark) and posted on Tumblr without my permission. The photo has ended up getting around Tumblr and other social media platforms over 53,000 since late December X_x I’ve filed a TON of DMCA takedowns trying to stop it from being passed around. A ton of the photos were posted with #pastel goth, which I had no idea existed. I wouldn't have minded if they would have left in my face and my website watermark- them cropping it out was actually really insulting :/ Looks like I'll have to put watermarks where they can't be cropped out from now on. Anyhow, thanks for the explanation! I wish I could afford goth clothes of any kind- I love goth, punk, ect, and would probably love pastel goth- however.. I blow all my money on pro mermaiding XP I saved caerfullly for over 4 years to be able to buy my newest tail, actually :P I'm mermaidiona on Tumblr. I'll have to check out your Tumblr! It will be interesting to see if the merfolk costuming community (we’re a subculture of our own I guess you could say) and pastel goth with overlap, and if so how much!

It's definitely not goth by the American (or European) definition, but the style and probably the name, comes from Japanese street fashion in which throwing some black and a cross on something does make it goth. It's sort of an interesting game of inter-cultural fashion telephone.

have you ever heard of bubblegum goth (this is a type of perky goth)? cause pastel goth is basicaly hipsters trying to attempt goth with out knowing or being invovled it the actual goth scene, the history or the music.....(and they end up looking sorta like bubblegum goth) bubblegum goth invovles heavy use of bubble gum blue, bubblegum purple and bubblegum pink, in regards to the fashion colors.

I can't say pastel goth has 'undeniably gothic aspects'. Studs and crosses aren't inherently goth (studs especially are more punk/metal. Tbh, if i had to put it in a box, the entire look seems closer to those imo). That's not to say that you can't dress in gothic styles whilst using studs/crosses, but then, all styles incorporate these (especially now as it's so on trend). It takes slight inspiration and builds on it sure, but there's not a whole lot from the style that's straight out of goth

Where you can find pastel goth outfits: If you search for creepy cute shirts, look for Drop Dead. Its a very cute and creepy label and they make not only shirts :) These ones are the best in my opinion! :)

What is a misappropriation is the fact of Cultural Capital that Pastel Goth employs. Basically most subcultures work hard at their styles, literature, music, ideology "depending on person" and seeing other styles taking certain aspects of their subculture creates an anger because its a feeling of someone "stealing?" at their subculture, The reason why Goths have these symbols "crosses, spikes etc..· is to employ the beauty of darkness that creates the Gothic style.

Japanese 'goth', unless following western trends, is often other substyles such as deconstructed lolita etc. If you mean Japanese followers of the western style, this makes your point redundant as they're copying rather than defining (goth is not a Japanese style by definition so why say goth when you mean a Jstyle) Pastel goth's origins come from many places. It is silly to define it by Japanese is styles as the style has just as much western influence (if not more in some substyles).

the problem with pastel/nu goth is that they claim to be goth but don't hold the personality, music tastes, literature tastes. don't no the history and have no really part in the subculture, their hipsters not goths. if you do like the music and have the personality than basically your goth regardless of the clothing you were, and of course it's best to know the history. just know that the term "pastel goth" and "nu goth" are the same and used for the hipster "goths".

Surprise there aren't more angsty 'why do we have to label everything' comments. I with they'd do an experiment where for one month, they'd get rid of all labels, so all the angsty, overly sensitive kids would see why that DOESN'T work.
