Thank you for explaining the differences. I so far have only created black and white pet portrait drawings. I've been wanting to start creating color portraits. Someone gave me a set of colored pencils but after watching this video I'm going buy a pastel pencil set and pastel paper. I was also thinking about trying oil painting but the oil based pastel pencils is a great choice for me because of the blending and light color over dark color properties it has that oil paints do. Pastel pencils can give a oil painting look without the extra cost and extra mess of oil painting.

Exactly, pastel pencils aren’t too messy yet you can layer light colours over the top of darker colours which is how I love to work. I hope you enjoy the pastel pencils when you start using them 😀♥️

Such practical advice for so many aspects of using both kinds of pencils. Thank you for sharing! I almost gave up on my pastel sticks, until I found pastel pencils for the fiddly finework. Now excited to play!

Love pastel pencils, i am in loved with it from the time i bought FC and Carbo . But I also enjoying experimenting with CPencils esp Prisma and some skin tints

I have moved over to pastel pencils too. Shame because I have soooooo many coloured pencils. I like the fact you can put CP over pastels though….to get some finer definition in areas (eyes, whiskers, tiny details)

Yes that is a positive! Using both mediums together can work really well too :)

Thanks for explaining the difference between pastel pencils and conventional oil-based or wax-based coloured pencils. Could you please also explain the difference between pastel pencils and watercolour pencils? Thanks in advance for your response.

That’s definitely something I can make a video on at some point :D

Watercolour pencils are water soluble so you can add water to blend them and create a paint-like look 😊

@@lottielouiseart if you get to read this, since I last commented, I’ve had a dilemma with drawing. I’m okay at it but as far as a career, I don’t know how I could make it profitable & like everyone I need to know id be financially good in life. It’s been this way for a while now & I never seem to know what to do. Drawing has always felt like a chore to me but I go back to it cause it’s the only thing I’m decent at & when I am drawing, i become worried about how to make good money with it. Not experienced enough to make courses, I lack of much knowledge to make art tutorial content & that’s my dilemma there, I just end up aimlessly drawing and post it on instagram to say “look what I drew” for no one to notice and I remain broke Just feels like I’m wasting life away Any advice for my situation? Sorry for such a long comment

Thank You for this video becausee I also didn't know the difference. Can you use them in a coloring book? I have seen many use them in coloring their drawings.🎨
@lottielouiseart Жыл бұрын
I don’t think pastel pencils would work very well in colouring books due to the smooth paper, but they’d probably work well for soft blended backgrounds 🥰

A note about your lighting. Your hand casts a shadow on the paper where you are applying the pigment.

Hi Louise. What set up do you use for videos?
@lottielouiseart26 күн бұрын
Hi! For when I’m filming on my desk, I have a short wall camera mount attached to the wall which I attach my camera to, so that I can face my camera directly downwards onto the desk. Otherwise I use a normal camera tripod :)

is there any difference between pastel and charcoal pencil white color in adding high light
@lottielouiseart2 ай бұрын
There isn’t a whole lot of difference, they both work very similarly! They’re just made from different materials but they do a similar job :)
