It is said in the first season that demons were actually very rare to even encounter. Also, what he says, that Meg "can't be here", he probably only encountered very few weak demons.

@@mando8398 If I remember well, Sam and Dean knew about Demons from the beginning of the serie, but discovered about the Devil's Traps only when the show showed Bobby for the first time. So, maybe knowing Demons doesn't automatically mean knowing all of their weak points. Or am I wrong?
