Your description of the caring male friend who pays so much attention to the woman was very vivid and mostly true, but that usually only lasts until the man has chopped the woman, then the man starts to behave no differently from her husband. They don't have as much time for the woman as they used to anymore. I think women take it more seriously because when a man is emotionally engaged with anyone, other than the wife, he automatically disengages from the wife at home which she cannot help but notice.
