Prisoners were given a choice, death or gamble. If survived, they would of been free. And they were free. Small pox was devastating illness. She saved her own children, and lots of other lives because the nobles followed her example. Her older son had a choice. He chose to grew up a bitter drank and gambler. It was his choice, from the beginning to the end.
