Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another PATREON recommendation with Pat Benatars "Promises in the Dark." This clip show how well this band comes together, and how well Benatar can sing. I'm loving the pace of this one , see me go bananas!

No - she could deliver vocals like that live anytime, any place. I saw her live out in the middle of a fairground in Wisconsin 20 years after this vide. She sounded just as powerful, clear, and in tune. You can see this is a live track at the end of the performance when the band pauses and Neil counts off the beat to restart the song. you can hear him counting out. This is how live was back in the day.

Derreck, when this came out songs like this we literally a dime a dozen. We could watch a track like this climb the charts, fade away, and get replaced by a song as equally well crafted. We were so spoiled. Bands toured every year and sounded fantastic in concert without any additional musicians, choreographed dancers, or gimmickry. Neil Geraldo was considered an average guitarist. Screaming guitar solos were the norm. Bands like Styx, Heart, and Def Leppard had dual lead guitarists. Vocalists with genuine pipes could be found on every street corner such as Ann Wilson (Heart) Stevie Nicks, Lou Gramm (Foreigner) and Donnie Iris. Most artists wrote their own material and often had heartfelt messages and social commentary. The public was gluttonous with their musical appetites and were served an endless buffet of musical bliss. Dear sweet naive Derreck....you have no idea what you missed....and the music your peers are serving up for you nowadays is as thin and flavorless as a glass of watered down Tang. Yet I applaud your journey and the earnestness of your reactions.

another trivia tidbit on PB u may not know,,she got into singing rock when she was 14 yrs, as a way to release her repressed anger against her strict preacher father, who insisted she be trained in opera at the age of 4yrs. I loved her from the first time i heard "hit me with your best shot" when i was 12yrs,but once i became aware of these facts, her music took on a whole different meaning, and depth, and allowed me to enjoy a genre of music that ,as a small child, had previously terrified me. Lol Her music has also saved the lives of many people,as listening to Her helps me to release my own rage. although if pat isnt available,a case of empty bottles,a brick wall, and real loud ozzy, will be a more than adequate substitution

Pat gave up Julliard Opera school to learn how to sing rock. Which is why she has so much power in her voice. Classically trained and then she trained to sing rock in a safe way. I saw them in concert in 2013 and she sounds just as powerful. Neil Giraldo is one of the most influential guitarists/producers/composers in modern music. You should have a look at True Love live from 2001 on KZbin to get an idea of what he is capable of. Pat's voice got way better between this time and peaked during the 90s. Suggest "Don't Walk Away" so you can hear her voice at it's peak and to hear her opera soprano briefly to hear how she can sing classically still too.

It’s not Mirren, as you pronounced it, but My run like it’s spelled, Myron. The last name is pronounced Grahhm bock ur Grombacher, so not as weird a name as you might think. It think it is Eastern European, which is not rare where he grew up. He is from Northeast Ohio (Where I grew up) from the Youngstown-Warren area. Incidentally, the lead guitarist is from Cleveland, so half of the band grew up no more than 75 miles away from me. The guitarist, Neil Giraldo, not only played in the band, but took over producing this band on the next album. He produced some other acts, as well. He also married Pat, and they are still together.

this is not synced, this is live. MTV and record companies would do this all the time at the beginning, bring in a hundred people or so, and have a band play live and that became their music video for the channel.

if the video sounded like the studio version that is because of the record company, Are you gay? cause you're acting very nelly?

Ok I only got to 3:33 and you sir are incorrect. When this type of music was made you were expected to sound the same live and in studio. That's all her.

As a woman from the 80’s, I need to tell you it is a keyboard not a piano. It is used in a lot of Rock music. 😊
