20 YEARS is insane! it took me 6 months working/searching 20 hours a day to find a complete collection of wiiU & my top wanted 300 games for the Wii in mint condition. Id never dare to attempt to even try to find my top 200 NES games in this day & age. Game lovers in the past that got started early like John Handcock & Pat & HappyConsoleGamer are very lucky they got in before collecting games became a massive trend.

Patrizio, you're an 80s kid. You should know that nothing emphasizes a moment of triumph more than a power ballad and a montage. For a momentous occasion like completing a collection I would suggest the song sweetest Victory by Touch and then put it against a montage of all the most memorable moments of putting your collection together. I'm not suggesting you put the montage together using video editor software because all the best footage for a montage like that is the memories. So put the montage together in your mind during a quiet, reflective moment.

Congratulations bro !!!!!! That's rare and hard as HELL. I'm a casual COLLECTOR I have a few hundred nes and a few hundred snes games , started SEGA and ps1 lately ( finding a huge quantity of 100s of ps1 games for a $ A PIECE or less ) I don't know if they will ever have any value BUT I love COLLECTING video games, WRESTLING FIGURES and game and WRESTLING memorbila ( I found the huge MARIO statue it was on pawn STARS and paid 50 bucks for it and a original ZELDA manual and poster at a garage sell yesterday ( with DOOM on snes ) I know it's not rare but I LOVED it as a kid and paid 1 $ FOR IT, so 51 $ FOR DOOM on snes , manual and ORIGINAL ZELDA poster NES, AND THE REALLY SUPER COOL ALMOST 3 FT TALK MARIO STATUE OR WHATEVER IT IS , I SEE SOME PEOPLE SELLING THEM FOR 3 TO 5 HUNDRED $ , I DON'T CARE ABOUT WHAT IT'S WORTH HONESTLY TO ME IT'S PRICELESS I'M SOOOO HAPPY TO HAVE IT AND I FELT GOOD TELLING THE SELLER ( WHO WAS SELLING HIS ADULT KIDS THINGS HE DIDN'T WANT ANYMORE ) THAT THE STATUE WAS WORTH AT LEAST 150 2OO BUCKS IF HE WANTED TO HOLD IT OR SELL IT ONLINE BUT I WOULDN'T BE WILLING TO PAY MORE THEN THE 50 FOR IT AS I WASN'T RE SELLING IT I WAS COLLECTING IT AND SHOWED HIM PICTURES OF MY GAME ROOM WITH THE NES AND SNES GAMES ON THE SHELVES OF THE WALL NEXT TO BOTH ORIGINAL SYSTEMS ALONG SIDE THE RECENT RE RELEASE OF BOTH SYSTEMS WITH THE GAMES PRE LOADED ON THE HARDWARE . HE SAID 50 WAS FINE THANKED ME FOR MY HONESTY AND WANTED TO SEE IT GO TO SOMEONE WHO WASN'T TRYING TO RE SELL IT AND WOULD LOVE IT AND GIVE IT A GOOD HOME, THAT WAS ME !!! MY 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS SUPER EXCITED AT THE YARD SALE AS WE GOT IT AND I GAVE HER 20 BUCKS TO PURCHASE ABOUT 75-100 GAME BOY GAMES , FROM THE SAME GUY ( I GAVE THE GUY AN ADDITIONAL 30 BUCKS PLUS HER 20 BECAUSE HE DIDN'T WANNA BREAK HER HEART WHEN SHE ASKED IF HE SHE COULD HAVE THEM ALL FOR " THIS MONEY'S AMOUNT" LOL , HE HAD A SIGN ASKING 50 FOR THEM ALL WITH A ORIGINAL GAME BOY , SO I PAID HIM THE PRICE FOR A DECENT DEAL AND ME AND MY DAUGHTER HAD A AWESOME DAY OF DADDY / DAUGHTER COLLECTING , THRIFTING AND YARD SELLING

Getting complete collections for systems I'll never understand. Congrats Pat for getting like 700 games. 600 of them are kinda shit but oh well. It's really fun in the beginning to go out and search for games you want cuz they're good GAMES you'll actually play. Then collectors change, they get the games they want to play and then it becomes a competition to get deals on the other titles to show off to other collectors. "Oh look what I got!" Nowadays everyone has a retro game room in their home they like to decorate. Good job again, Pat I think it's cool it took you 20 years and Ian you rock! Game on guys.

Five Minute Gaming oh I do. But just remember that game collecting does not automatically mean *get every single game that was ever made for this thing*. That's not how it works for some people, some people build a collection of stuff they like, not stuff they *need* just for completion's sake.

Since Pat finalized his NES collection watch how much the prices drop on common NES games lol . Congrats , Pat on 20 years of blood ,sweat & tears . I think collectors are now realizing how hard it is to collect for retro .Say you have 500 NES games , no NWC or Stadium Events ......more than likely you have 80% of shit games that take up space . I think refining your collecting into stuff you like to play is the way to go for most and you get more enjoyment out of it . I see the 3 for $5 bins of common NES games making a return .
@mrbuckets11066 жыл бұрын

I've done similar collecting in sportscards. Spent over a decade building two different sets and, when you're done, you don't even know what to think. I eventually got down to one simple question: Do I have this because I want it or because I want to say I have it. Based on your admission of already seeing yourself selling off parts, you've already answered that question. My answer was the same. I sold off everything but a handful of my favorites that I did really want. Best of luck!

Think too you’ve gotten to the point where personal novelty is gone too. Not to say it doesnt hold value for you as a hobbyist but just that the “wow” factor of getting those first few rare carts is something prob never recreate, so yeah getting older shit lol

good for your Pat I'm glad you finally finished and I'll tell you why 1: it shows that you are capable of completing a task even if it takes a while which says something about you and it is definitely a good thing sense too many people start things and don't finish 2: the second reason being that your path to maturity was this collection and not the completing of it but having it be something you do as opposed to something that consumes you which too many collectors fall into that particular trap so good for you and good luck on all future projects

The funco clearance got me into collecting also. It was exciting getting games and tracking them down from stores that had no idea what it was. Never finished a full set but I don't think it would be as much fun as finding a rare expensive cart for nothing, which is next to impossible these days.

I lost my original video games and a lot of other things ten years ago to a house fire and I was close to having a full north American Sega master system ,genesis, snes, gamegear and 65% of a full nes collection. I'm slowly getting all my consoles back and with handhelds I'm back to having 35 different consoles with 20-80 games for them. I'm only collecting games I want to play though and I check them out first on my laptop if they are games I haven't played.

That's awesome Pat, good work! I think you guys are right about the growing up thing. I've never been the biggest collector of games myself, but I have held on to almost everything I've bought for my game systems since forever. However, over the last couple of years, I've been selling a lot of it. I've probably sold 70% of my stuff! Certain things I'll never get rid of like my original NES and games but it has felt really good to sell everything else because I have no reason to keep it as I don't really use it as it all just takes up space. Plus, someone else gets to enjoy it. Have at it! =)

I got in to retro collection too late, but still built a decent collection, through garage sales, friends and family storage rooms. I am more shocked now when I see people post they are going for a complete collection and they have 100 games, its not going to be cheap or easy, and at this point its less about the hunt or game chasing ( no offence Billy and Jay) but I think thats a thing of the past, at least where I live, now it pretty much swaps and retail stores. Again great pod cast, keep up the good work. Not so common is also really good. ~Jason B from Facebook

Also I think that when you started collecting it was a passionate hobby in your life and finding treasures made you happy, but now you have a lot more going on with a successfully published book, successful KZbin channel, and a successful podcast, so the collection is no longer the main source of happiness (not even to mention happiness in your personal life however much there is) and these last few games are just games. That's my impression anyway.
