This play is why I used to love seeing Danny White and later Tom Tupa play. White started as the punter and later became the starting QB.. and Tupa was both in college and did a bit of both for a while before finishing as just a punter (with a few tricks in there thrown in)... With those 2 guys... you could NOT take the punter for granted.

There have actually been instances where someone has been injured and they had to have a player change number mid game because of this.

It's bc the number of players. You might have a large amount of skill position players or d- line, and some may share numbers. It's going to have to happen when it increases to 105 players. Still wild though.

Yes, there is no rule to player numbers other than you can't have to players with the same number on the field at the same time. There have been instances where 2 players who play the same position have the same number, someone gets hurt and the 2nd string player has had to enter mid game AND change their jersey/number before entering.

This wasnt even the best fake punt of the week!!!! I dont remember which team it was but they snapped the ball and had the gunner come across the formation like a pre snap shift and the punter just dumped it over the 5 or 6 people rushing the punt and it was just beautiful. My description doesnt do it justice I promise. It was a freaking gorgeous play. Reminded me of an old Les Miles fake from the 2000's.
