Vermillion is actually a red pigment used in religious practices in India. It is mostly used in weddings and is known to be cleansing.

Just to add to the info... You'll often find it as a color in art supplies, oils like the previous commenter said, other paints, color pencils...

It's also known to be an expensive pigment (as an art supply) and within western art tradition was used a lot as a symbol of wealth- esp within renaissance era art- due to the cost of the pigment and the symbolism of red colours. So it's an extra Bougie shade.

@@mahathikuppa Yes. Gone are those days that pure vermilion is used for paints. Nowadays, most pigments are synthetic. For example, blue pigment(Lapis Lazuli used for aquamarine paint) is formed from crushing blue gemstone and ostentatiously expensive that only the rich people can afford (Renaissance era), so some painters trick you into thinking there are blue pigments on their painting when in fact cool-toned white is often juxtaposed to black to make it appear blue.
