I saw this tour in Austin, TX., Halloween 1982. I was front row, center at the Paramount Theater. It was a magical evening. I will never forget it. They played this entire album (As Falls...) along with most of the 1st Pat Metheny Group album and almost all of Offramp (it was of course the Offramp Tour). It was a singular experience highlighted when Pat lost his pick in the middle of an intense solo (it actually might have been this tune!) and started finger picking and then he snatched-up the pick, which was right in front of my nose, about 2 bars later without missing a note. Unreal.
@haysfordays2 жыл бұрын
I live in Austin and cannot fathom seeing that tour at The Paramount. Consider yourself blessed. I actually first saw him not with the group but with Ornette Coleman. Then the group 4 times after that.

Took me a while to realize Steve Rodby must be playing a keyboard bass. It's a trip (and kind of difficult) to concentrate on the bass line... lots of emotion from it. This is one of favorite PMG songs and IMO this is the best version. THANKS for uploading it.

I've been watching a bunch of performances from MJF and it dawned on me...the lineup for 1982 was unbelievable! In addition to PMG, Maynard Ferguson, McCoy Tyner, Jaco Pastorius, Sonny Rollins, Jean‐Luc Ponty, John Dankworth/Cleo Laine, Willie Dixon, Wynton Marsalis, Buddy Rich, Chick Corea/Gary Burton, Ornette Coleman, and last, but not least, Miles Davis also played that year. Mind = blown

I have this on VHS video tape from early 80s. I use to play the hell out of it, trying to figure the solo out. So nice to see it once again after all these years. Brings back so many memories of those days. I met Pat Metheny twice at Hammersmith Odeon. Such a nice guy, very humble. He's an incredible musician, as indeed they all are in this band. Playing solos with a clean guitar like this is not easy, especially when the music becomes intense. Pat Metheny is a master at it. Wonderful, uplifting music. Long may he continue, R.I.P. Lyle Mays
