Panic over planned protest worrisome - Pat Utomi Asks Tinubu Not To Silence Protesters.
Political Economist Prof. Pat Utomi has described state actors' panic over the planned protest on August 1 as worrisome. Utomi said this during his speech at the unveiling of a new social group called the ‘New Tribe’.
According to him, ‘New Tribe’ is a social group of citizens committed to personal integrity, social justice, and sacrificial service to advance the common good of Nigeria over emotions of ethnicity and faith as often weaponized by political actors.
In his speech, he said: “The state of the motherland is certainly worrisome. So worrisome that some people have set off panic about the impending protests, threats, bullying, and scapegoating, resulting in prefabricated falsehoods by agents of the state.

I support this protest as a way of warning the Nigerian politicians, especially the criminally minded Tinubu and his cohorts to change course. They can no longer ask the already impoverished people to make sacrifices while they spend billions on selfish projects. Since he took office, Tinubu and APC have taken people for granted. In 1977 or so, students in all the universities in Nigeria engaged in Ali- Must- Go protests because of increase of school fees. Colonel Ali was the then minister of education.Although Nigeria was under military rule, to the best of my recollection, the army didn’t appear on the streets to force the end of the protests, and no deaths were reported.

Professor Utomi, in the 2019 you some other prominent came with an organization that was supposed to identify politicians in the country that can take President Buhari in his second term and nothing came out of it. In the 2023 elections you stepped down for Peter Obi who contest under the Labor Party. Now the elections are over with and only God knows which political party you now support in Nigeria. In the mist of the crisis in the country, you have again now gathered a a new social group together called "New Tribe" All the values listed that this group will be committed to can best be thought in institutions where you deliver lectures as a professor as opposed to adding to the unproductive civil society in the country that create more division in the country. You know very well that Nigeria is a country with different ethnicity and faith how do you intend to address the currently existing ethnicity groups and religious organizations in the country? The party you belong to the LP focus on the Christians during the last election because there was a party that had a Muslim Muslim ticket also whether or you accept it or north the LP got more votes from one ethnic group in the country.
