A waterproof backpack is a great piece of gear for rainy days on the water. The Patagonia Guidewater is not only waterproof but also fully submersible. Here's why we think it's one of the best waterproof backpacks you can get...

I debated betweent he two as well. I bought the sling and really like it. Its slightly smaller, but very useful and easy to use. EIther of them have waterproof zippers, so they take an effort to open, but you will get used to it. I strapped the sling on the front of my raft for some class 3+ rapids and everything stayed dry. I use the sling often as it is a great size for around town and travel. Good luck! I also bought the Guidewater 80L duffle...its a beast but I wanted it waterproof.

Debating between This or the Guidewater sling. Do you have any opinion on what would work better for a day trip / hiking into a spot with gear. Worried the Sling would not balance the weight as much when packing in lunch, water, and supplies for a day of fishing. 4km hike to my usual spot on local river. I have found I live in quite a rainy climate and have waded to deep a few to many times so looking at the waterproof options.

Hi there, you laid it out pretty well :). If you want to keep you sling/backpack on while casting I thing the sling is the better option also because you can simply swing it around and access your gear without having to take it off your back. In terms of capacity the backpack is the better choice but considering you're looking for something for a day trip, I think the sling will be big enough. Hope that helps

@@TheGehlan Hi, the sling is quite a bit smaller and also (as the name suggests) it does not feature two shoulder straps. Hence, if you want the best weight distribution, I would go for the backpack. That said, the sling is the better option if you want to access gear without taking the bag off your back as you can simply swing it around and open the zipper. In terms of the fabric and their waterproofness they are the same. Hope that helps 🙌
