Patagonia MLC Showdown: Which size is for you?

MLC - sizes. It is my understanding that the size references the target location on the plane. 40L for overhead compartment. 30L for under seat in front of you.

Bryan seems like you are Big Time Bag Guy just like us. Love the detail and dropping the knowledge. Keep it coming man! We go for the seat in front of us but thats not always an option when we are flying in a pod on those overseas flights!

Pass through strap is perfect for me when I travel several weeks at a time internationally . I use the 30L as a carry on and check my large bag.

Thanks for the response. We seem that acceptable. Just no pass through for 2 carryons. That’s too much! Where do you go internationally? Ever get to Barcelona?

I do the exact same thing. I travel for business to Europe. I check a suitcase and I use my mini MLC as a carryon which contains my work computer, iPad, and enough clothes for a couple days in case my checked bag is lost. The passthrough gets used every trip. BTW it is a great bag. I get lots of comments about it.

At 9:40 I disagree - isn’t the whole point of that bag that it DOES qualify as a personal item?

Yeah can’t take them scuba diving but they are great on planes, and if it is a Boeing plane might get to try skydiving!

Big Time Guys - When you arrive at your location, do you downgrade to a smaller day pack or do you rock the MLC throughout your trip day to day?

Often times we pack an empty backpack inside our one bag for doing the day to day on scene. Especially if we are going to be somewhere for a while.

what the luggage passthrough is 80% of why I'm buyingt this bag specifically!!!! Keep It!!! I will use it a lot. It's also another good handle. get rid of the waist/should strap.. that will save some weight

Great tip! We just don’t want you bringing this and a rolling bag into the overhead!
