At first, this was one of those songs that I didn’t really know what to do with. It felt really encouraging to me, but it also felt really confrontational. There is something powerful about blatantly “naming” those things that we all deal with every single day. Money. Appearance. Power. Approval. There are more idols than these…but for this song, it felt like it was time to call these out for what they are. These idols make promises to us that they can’t deliver. When they are our primary pursuit, we tend to cause more harm than good. And knowing that there is something better, is good news. I’m hoping this song reminds us of the most important things in life. Its definitely helped me.

My husband left me this week, in the middle of a pandemic on my birthday, telling me simply that I was no longer "enough". To me, this song was the strength I needed to know that as we age our looks may fade, our strength will leave us, (we are no longer spring chickens), and we no longer push at 50 as we did at 20 for those riches. To all the comments about Jesus’ name not being in this song, I think that when you have a sincere relationship you just speak things directly to Him and it can make it more intimate. But also there are some songs that avoid using His name because of fear of backlash. I don’t think this is one of those cases and Pat Barrett is clearly not ashamed of Jesus. Sure! I actually gave it recently on Facebook live! Basically, I was adopted as a baby, had abandonment issues and fear of rejection out of that, had loving but emotionally unavailable parents, was raised in church but never understood that relationship piece. I believe I was saved as a child but it was always more about religion and legalism, so as a disenchanted teenager, walked away from church. Throughout my life looked to people, places, and things for my contentment..particularly romantic relationships. Had a significant relationship end about 7 years ago and God met me in the rubble that was my life. Found out about codependents anonymous and other programs, then God led me back to Jesus and a new home church and Celebrate Recovery! It's been a great format for processing my hurts, habits, and hang ups from past and present! A lot has changed for the good and I've had to learn to cling to God. Jesus is my firm foundation now, but I struggle to keep him first at times. Progress not perfection, not in this life anyway!

Yes..only one was perfect...our King of kings and Lord of lords..we are all sinners in need of a Savior! Progress, not perfection indeed! Two steps forward and one step back is still one step forward. Obviously we strive to do even better than that but thank God for His grace and patience...He guides us to exactly where and who we should be...and knows our whole story...not just when He created us...but before He created the universe. He knew we'd have this conversation even then! Lol 👍 But He has put it on my heart since I was saved in January 2019 to deliver my full testimony. I have yet to fully do that...I always believed in God but got away from church after briefly going when I was real young...was attacked with lust at a young age...put that on a pedestal throughout most of my life and had terrible relationships, bad decisions made and battled depression for over a decade. Hope somehow always got me through...I came close to giving up on this life many times...especially in 2018. I had the worst relationship of my life in 2017-18 with a woman I believe to be possessed by the jezebel spirit. To make a very long story short, it all led me to Jesus. And I was reborn in January 2019. He knew me my whole life even if I only believed in Him....in spurts. He replaced all the pain of my past with peace beyond understanding and a love I was searching for my whole life! He has since helped me forgive anyone who has ever hurt me and also helped me forgive myself...as well. I have a long testimony and have actually debated about doing a FB live so I can't believe you said that. God put it on my heart to reactivate my FB a couple weeks ago after two years off it. I have to do it soon or at least record it and then post it. Your comment cemented that clarity for me so I thank you! And praise God! God bless you and thanks for responding. Thanks for the reminder Pat. I've been thinking about a lot of things lately. On one of those dark days this song played on the K Love while I was on my way to work and it brought tears to my eyes.
