Absolutely Brilliant. We have engaged a couple of “Plasterers” to do Patchwork at different times. They both said they could Replicate exactly the pattern you have just done. One said you can’t get Artex anymore. Their results were appalling, both using pink board finish plaster. None had your stipple brush, one used a Dustpan Brush. You can imagine what it looks like. If only, at the least we had seen your video just two weeks ago things would have been different. Great work Buddy 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Hi Dale, absolute brilliant clear instructions and demonstration and it has helped me do my mums wall and ceiling. As you work with textured decorative coating a lot, please may I ask if you would know why a building developer would use decorative textured coating in a block of apartments communal stairwell. This block of apartments were built in the year 2002 if they were built in the 70s and 80s when it was fashionable, but in the year 2002 ? Does it serve a purpose. The textured decorative coating is applied directly to the concrete stairwell in a stippling effect. Many thanks Samantha
@Artexing
@Artexing 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Samantha Thank you for leaving a comment and I am happy the video has helped you with your stipple scenario One reason stipple is used in the communal area; this could be is the addition of adding a textured finish is more cost effective for the developer, compared to having to skim/plaster (if there are plasterboards.) Also, textured finish dries an almost grey-ish white, and therefor, cutting cost more, no need to paint the ceilings afterwards Another reason could be that to lay on texture and stipple the ceilings may be 'accessibility' - where (once any plasterboard joints have bee taped to bridge the gaps) one would use a paint roller on an extendable pole to lay on the compound, and then use a industrial stipple brush (14" - 14") also attached to an extendable pole, to reach those awkward heights, compared to getting up to the ceiling height with a plastering trowel and hawk Another reason could b the plasterer had too much to drink the night before, making him unavailable and they wanted to get the job finished :-) Hope these explanations helps, please let me know Have a great day
@mrdemocracy7106

Hi Textured ceilings have advantages expecially in communal flats. Textured ceilings provide sound insulation & noise reduction between flats. Which is a good advantage over flat ceilings with neighbours. Textured ceilings have the ability to conceal imperfections at a low cost where flat ceilings (cracks in ceiling shows)at a repair re-plastering & re painting decorating cost.

Hi Dale, Great video, you explain it very well and make it look fairly easy and I know it won’t be but I’ll have a go. Can you advise is it a normal paint roller you use, also is it a proper stipple mix that I can buy or is it a plaster mix? Many thanks Douglas
@Artexing
@Artexing 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Douglas. Thank you for commenting Yes the paint roller is only for application purposes. The texture is normally purchased in powder form, and can be mixed with water to require the correct consistency for stipple pattern Often ready-mixed texture for applying to interior ceilings / walls, may be available. And this may require amounts of water to bring the texture to a consistency of which I am using to create a stiplle pattern. If you do use ready-mixed, make sure to only add small amounts of water at a time, and mix together. As if you should add too much water, there is no way to make a thicker consistency All the same, it would be really good if you can reply here and let us know how you get on Have a great day Dale

Use easyfill 20 or cove adhesive to patch artex. Sets so no shrinking leaving pattern just as its done. Oddly though it's so much nicer to use than artex to pattern. Ha. Last patch I done I used easyfill 20 to prep and pattern. I seal. Skim and pattern with same material so skim then sponge edges smooth then straight on as prep is setting with pattern with a fresh mix. All done quickly and spot on. As for sealer gardz or beeline sealer which is cheap and fine to add some acrylic primer (keep that a secret) to make white if needed. Artex sealer is now available again (2021) but seen the price? Gee! Still good stuff but other options available. I've replaced small area with plasterboard then taped and patterned in 3 hours. Job done using fast sets. Lost art now though but nice to see another able to achieve a good patch. :) One smaller brand of sealer I used to use was pva and emulsion mixed 50/50. Seen it in factory being made but I thought it was poor but surprised to see how they made it. Prefer artex sealer but unable to get it last few years but have a new tub in my garage now stock

Hi Dale, I am doing a stipple ceiling repair in my living room that has a similar textured pattern that has been done with a stipple brush For the stipple mix can you use 'no nonsense screwfix all purpose ready mix' with adding water for applying texture mix with stipple brush?
@Artexing
@Artexing Жыл бұрын
Hi. Thank you for contacting me. If you can get the filler, once mixed, to the same consistency as of the original textures' (which you are attempting to replicate), and it is only a small patch, why not try using the filler? To patch in successfully a 'stipple pattern' it's all about making your consistency resemble the consistency of the existing stipple the original texture'r' used. However, I would not attempt to use 'skimming plaster'. This is just my piece of advice, and a bag of texture is not cheap. Especially as you only need to do a patch-up. But do let us know how you get on Have a great day Dale
@mrdemocracy7106

Hi Dale, The stipple ceiling repair is about 5'-0" x 5" wide (was a plaster board ceiling joint crack) I have repaired ceiling with Screwfix no nonsense all purpose ready mix filler and sanded down smooth flat ready for texturing mix with stipple brush. Note would PVA glue diluted with water and rolled over be ok for bond sealing before rolling texture mix & stipple brushing I was going to use the rest of ready mix filler in tub diluted with small amounts of water with stipple brush let dry and 2 coats white dulux emulsion over all ceiling. Regards
@Artexing
@Artexing Жыл бұрын
Yes, definitely seal with pva, watered down, as the dry filler on the ceiling will instantly draw off the moisture of the new mix you are about to apply, and then it would be difficult attempting to make a pattern. Maybe coat the area twice (to help diminish as much porosity as possible.) Let the sealer dry completely before texturing,, and once you have mixed your filler/texture, to the consistency you think looks good, lay some of this compound onto a spare wall or ceiling,or spare piece of plasterboard, and then stipple it, so see if it resembles the original pattern on your ceiling, and you can always wash this Often, though, when attempting a stipple patch-up, a little filler/texture, applied to the area (compared to laying on the texture really thickly) just may suffice Some stipple I have patched has been so fine, that I just lay some compound onto my actual stipple brush, then just dabbed gently onto the area Hope all this helps Have a great day
