It's surprising to see how many videos there are out there that fail to mention the connections on the BACK of the patchbay, and this video is no exception. It would be much more informative if the ENTIRE signal flow was described - From instrument > patchbay > sound card > patchbay > external signal processor... Also the differences between TRS and bantam patchbays... P.S. I didn't watch the whole video.

Do you have any videos you can recommend please..?

EXACTLY!!! That's all I've been looking for and it's like these guys don't even feel the need to mention it. I want a full explanation then it'll actually make sense.
@eento064 жыл бұрын
This video is really good actually but yeah 100% agree regarding the back patching part is sadly always missing. Maybe because it's just a sum of cables connections..
@SamSine4 жыл бұрын
That's because the front of the patchbay is a mirror of the back, so there's no need to show the back to understand. When the front says Preamp Out 1 (top row), it means that the corresponding connector in the back is where the Preamp Out 1 is plugged in. Same for compressor, etc... So, no need to show the back since you see the same thing on the front panel. I think he explains it very very well. He did a wonderful job!
@UsernameInvalid484 жыл бұрын
Haha seriously, the front is easy but if you're trying to build your own patch bay there's no tutorials.

Great tutorial. I've already started setting up some patch bays at home and most of this I know already. But, when you were explaining half-normal, the idea of having a fall back "dry" signal and the experimental "wet" signal, that gave me a bit of a Eureka moment! Had never thought of it that way. Thanks!

Thank you for this video information. I have a question, you said that in half normal I can record two signal, right? So, this means that I can record two signals within the same channel? I don't need channel one for a dry signal and channel two for the wet one? Thank you

How might you connect a bunch of microphone XLR cables into the patchbay? Like are there ports or something for mic arrays?
@pizzagogo61515 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the explanation one aspect about connecting leads you didn’t mention im unsure of. I can see you are using leads with two rings is that because they are trs balanced or because they send stereo signals. I’m pretty much never using mics or guitar, just synths, all connections I need are stereo. Is there a difference if you are using stereo signals. Or another way to put it is do you have to double all the connections to send both l&r or are patchbays normally stereo channels? Thank you.
@anonymous_friend5 жыл бұрын
You can get unbalanced or balanced patch bays. I would think balanced or trs would work for you in stereo. I dont think I would mix stereo and trs on the same patchbay though. TRS carries duplicate signal and will boost by 6db

Hey guys how do I setup a reverb unit, sending the signal to vocal booth and at the same recording the dry signal? My vocalist just wants to hear his voice with reverb during recording and on my side I’d only record the dry signal when he is singing into my interface

This is a super noob question, but can you plug a mic directly into a patchbay and send it to a preamp?
@themagicalducklings4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you would want a balanced patchbay and a TRS cable. Like a female XLR to TRS 1/4" cable.

Hi. 🙂 Please, let us pray together. Dear God who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever in Jesus Christ's name we pray amen. 1 Corinthians 16:14 Let all that you do be done in love. Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 1:2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. May all suffering end as we give thanks this day. May God's face shine upon us forever on Earth as it is in Heaven in Jesus Christ's name we pray for His name and for His sake. Amen.
