I learned drumming through marching band in middle school, so I learned traditional grip. I got into metalcore bands like Unearth in high school, but I had no idea he drummed this way. It's crazy to me that a metal(or any genre) drummer would play traditionally.

Nick is a beast, he grew up down the road from me and we had some mutual friends so I used to hear all about how much of a beast he was. However, I do want to point out that he was hurt when Unearth recorded this album so Adam D from Killswitch Engage played drums on this album. This song is much more simple than what Nick usually plays... I mean the dude played with The Faceless for a bit just for some context on the level this guy is on.

You really should check out his earlier stuff in Breath of Nibiru. Not taking a dump on Unearth but his drumming with them is generic and boring because that is what their songs require. He has so much more to offer than the novelty of playing metal with trad grip and i wish he would find a prog metal band to play in where he could utilize all the work he put in to that type of playing.

I'd love to see you react to Jinjer's drummer Vladislav Ulasevish! I recommend one of two videos. On is of a song called Ape. It's professionally recorded, so the sound is great (no vocals, just drums, bass, and guitar), and the video quality is great, though there is some crazy camera work in there. Also, as he often does, he plays it with some really beefy double-butted sticks. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHXcm5uVhNaDoac The other is a two-song drum cam of a true live gig in Kiev, the songs being Sit, Stay, Roll Over, and Ape. The sound is very good considering it's live, but the place he put the camera was less than ideal, with the largest crash hiding the snare, toms, and one foot. On the other hand, it's two songs, one of which was originally played/written by the band's previous drummer, so it's not really his style, but he does really well in it anyway; Ape is his own, so more like what he usually does. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGe0iWZ8nKppfpI
