Hi... Nice video!.... Do you know if is there any way to route the outputs from each instrument individually, including all it ambients and OH and bleeds?. I mean, I know SD3 is trying to emulate the real drum recording/mixing process. But what I want to do is something similar to put MUTE on kick drums and exporting THAT STEM (that would be output 1), and doing the same thing for each instrument. I can't find info about that anywhere.. Best regards!

Very helpful. Thanks! I just got Superior Drummer, coming from EZdrummer. Superior is a bit different and this help speed up the transition. I would just add that everyone should make a template after they're through, because this set up can be tedious. Have a drum template would make Logic load with it already set up!

Pat, thanks for the video. When you created the aux tracks to route the individual tracks did you use all aux mono or all aux stereo. It's a bit confusing because most tracks are in mon, but the snare bottom and Overheads are stereo? Thanks

what do you do about cymbals? I missed that part.......for example, right now I am using the "death" sdx library. all of my cymbals are routed through OH and AMB MID - 3 cymbals activate the exact same mics. what to do here?

What’s the reasoning behind routing each output to bus 1 instead of using send ( if there’s any) and why fid you route the track with the superior drummer instance (output 1/2) to stereo output instead of Bus 1? Thanks in advance

Aloha from Honolulu, Fabulous video! So, how you’ll you go from what you have done to getting separate audio stems? I’m thinking at the very least it’d be nice to have: kick, snare, OH, room. Thanks!

Thanks Pat. I'm building up this type of workflow using Cubase. In my case since I've experience with recording and mixing live drums I've been configuring it with all of the kick mics routed to one Out, the snare to their own, hihat to its own, OHs to their own, and ambient mics to a single Room Out. Then I adjust the kick faders the way I would in the recording session. And for the instruments that call for it add some slight effects in busses before the outs. For instance, throwing a HPF on the snare bus before its Out. For me that emulates my experience more accurately. But a great video and appreciate it!

Thanks bro! One question. After splitting the drum parts in multi channels, how can i edit a part with my plug-ins, if many parts are played also in "ambient" "oh" "comp"? It doesn't change much if i edit for example "snare" since it is also played in other mixers. 😔 Any ideas?

I believe there's a way in SD3 to map the mixer to multiple outputs with the click of 1 button instead of doing it manually.

Hi Pat great video! One quick question: I did exactly as you did, and created the additional 15 tracks and routed the SD3 out puts to them but there’s no ‘Sup 1/2’ for the Kick In in my Logic mixer. What did I miss or how do you compensate for that?

I am answering my self !( hey this is me from the future 🙃) any how it is not such a problem to bounce tracks from SD3. I am doing it almost every day now, you need to route your channels to multiple outputs and make sure your daw is in sinc, I guess in different methods in each daw. After you routed your channels from the plug-in you can do what ever you want with them. It turns out I needed to study my daw better (cubase 10) SD3 is , well, superior indeed !!

Hey pat this is for a friend can I create the multiple output instance of superior drummer after the midi region is created? good stuff
@PatFlanigan4 жыл бұрын
Yes you can! The midi data itself is independent to which instrument actually "plays" the notes. Even if you (or in this case your friend) has a bunch of midi drum tracks already written, you can create a new track, fire up SD3 in the same way I show in this video, assign your tracks and just drag the regions to the appropriate tracks. Hope that's clear enough! Thanks for your question!

They are stereo, but most of them they actually should be mono in order to mix it as real session or even SD3 session. It means a lot to plugin usage when instead of using mono plugin you forced to use stereo which takes twice more power from your system. Also, it's whole different way of mixing when you have just stereo tracks. Great video anyway! It helped a lot.

Yep. You still have everything you had before, including the SD3 mixer and the single Logic track, but now it’ll be a BUS with the subtracks in it. You can still write your parts in the main track.

Hello there! Nice video, but since i'm new to logic and SD i have some problems creating this template. I start as you did and i created 15 tracks+the primary. I route them as you did 3/4 , 5/6 etc but then in SD3 mixer it says on top that NO MICS are routed, and the bleed numbers are 0/0. I dont know what to do. Other Kits have 10 mics, other have more. Do i need to choose one kit with many mics (like EZX progressive ?) ?. I need your help and I was wondering if you could send me your template in this video via email, or if we could facetime for 5 mins in order to guide me in order to get it right! Why are single miked drums (snare, kick, etc.) routed into stereo channels?
@timearchitecture4 жыл бұрын
duderonemillion the main output in sd3 is stereo as well. This method sends the signal after the channel to a stereo logic track instead of the stereo out in the sd3 mixer. Still, each individual track in sd3 is stereo and has panning anyway.
@timearchitecture4 жыл бұрын
In typical recording stereo channels are made for each track. Either that or they are doubled, one left and one right.

The need to route every drum mic as stereo is extremely wasteful of resources and quickly exhausts the 16 stereo outputs of a standard sized kit with 3 rack toms and 2 floor toms. I really wish there was an easy button in the SD3 mixer to route all mics as mono before being bussed to the multi-channel stereo pairs to the driver so that I can easily just bus them as individual mics in Logic. I haven't found a video yet that describes how to do this. Yes, this compromises the ability to use bleed, pans, and presets within SD3, but for those of us who solely purchased SD3 for the samples and perhaps eKit tracking and want to do ALL our production work within Logic, it seems a reasonable ask of Toontrack. If anyone has a link that can show me how to do this, please let me know.
@PatFlanigan2 ай бұрын
Yeah I think I remember a tutorial (from GetGood Drums) mentioning that setting up stereo channels for multi-outputs was the best way to go, at least for their libraries, yet I'm not sure they ever specified why. In an IRL session, most of the drum tracks would be mono...

I have EZ drummer, and in EZ, you go to 'track', export as a wav file. You have to do it one track at time, and mute all the other drum tracks. Apologies, if you already know this, or if it's not the same in SD3.

@PatFlanigan4 жыл бұрын
Have you tried creating a “multi output” instance of SD? It’s usually located right under the usual way of adding the app. That should allow you to add all those extra tracks and do the rest. Let me know if that works. I’m not in front of my computer right now so my assistance is limited!

@@PatFlanigan I did, insted of the stereo I chose the muli output 16- it does route it once I put the inputs in the new tracks manually as 3-4,5-6. But doesn't create them like that by itself.

does this work in Garageband? hitting "x" to bring up mixer in GB does not work. wondering if there's another way to get to it or if this feature only works in logic
@PatFlanigan4 жыл бұрын
Oof I haven’t worked in GB in a while, but I can tell you that there is no “mixer” per se in there. You can hit “E” or “B” I think to pull up the track details and add effects, but that’s about it. You may want to try loading a multi-ouput instance of SD3 in GB but I doubt you’ll be able to assign all the tracks. Let me know how that goes. I’ll look into it a bit too!
