(i know I'm silly) sir i have an unnecessary confusion but its chronic.. im relating this to vectors ans scalars.. like you cant add a vector to a scalar, but First Law States that dQ=dU+dW.. now dQ and dW are path functions and dU is point function, so how can we add a path function and a point function ? ;-( uttarabhilaashi :)

nice question... i would like to think like this.. . U, Q and W are path functions... dQ, dU and dW are not... and hence your argument wouldnt stand... try to read this book...... Understanding Thermodynamics - H. C. Van Ness

You think just like me.. Look.. We only need the distance netween p1 and p2,so we simply calculate from reffrence point i.e where p and v are both zero.. It is hard to explain in words i need some sketches here and i have not lot more tools but i think you get the idea..

because the process is from state 1 to 2. Pressure changes from P1 (Initial) to P2(final) so dp (change in pressure) = p2 - p1
