Path of Exile 2 Delayed Three Weeks

This is an example of what the infra. side has to deal with, and we rarely have any cute frameworks (or well-documented APIs) to make our lives easier. I've solved more, and more challenging problems, on the infra. side, than I ever did as an SDE ...and it pays better.

My bet is they wont... cause then they will have made ALOT of money on POE 1 when players bought stash tabs in it - thinking they would work in POE2. My bet is there wont be ANY stash tabs migration and GGG will blame it on tech... when its is all just PR tactics to get more money in their outdated POE1 game.

Personally, I think if they just said how to get into early release it would appease those that might be a little disgruntled at this point. Either way, I never booked vacation because i try to keep for December, so maybe now I'll use it for the new day.

Not gonna lie, they kinda lost me on Ascension release - the first expansion. Iirc, the game didn't work on Windows 7, which was the version with the biggest installed base back then (it worked on win 10 iirc, but win 8 was so bad that some people are scared to update windows to this day...). The company probably changed completely in over a decade, but still, "our Windows game doesn't work on Windows" was kinda low lol

There aren't many people in this world who are more aware of just how much load PoE2 is gonna generate than GGG, they'e done dozens of smaller launches that have been getting bigger with each new league, and no doubt they are aware PoE2 will bring in even more people curious to try out the new thing. Even with the delay I have no doubt day 1 will be a bit of a shitshow, but I'm confident GGG will get it sorted out, again, this is what they do best.

I'm totally fine with the delay, they should take all the time they need. As much as it sucks, I do always appreciate how GGG is upfront and straightforward about it. Haven't done DB work in years, but I will say data migration or integration of a DB to a new project, especially an older one can be a complete nightmare. Again, it sucks, but I get it and appreciate that they're willing to say what the problem is and outright admit that it was because of a time allocation issue. Though, on a funny note, I just had a major knee surgery. So when the delay is over, I might actually be able to sit at my desk more than once an hour every other 4 hours to play lol.

GGG is a really great studio and i really appreciate their approach to game development. I would rather they delay the game a few weeks for a better product, even if it is only early access. Even if the reason is that they needed to give their employees time off. Devs are human beings and need to have lives outside of their jobs.

I still don't expect the servers to hold up at the EA launch. That said, I'd MUCH rather wait another 3 weeks and not have to worry about my account getting screwed up and lose thousands of dollars of cosmetics. A whole lot of us continued to buy cosmetics with the idea we would be able to use them in PoE2. Hell, honestly I haven't even played the last few leagues but still bought packs because they looked cool, I want to support GGG, and I knew I would be able to enjoy them in PoE2.

This delay is not something I mind at all. Yeah, I would have liked to play on the 15th, but with them being very upfront about what's causing the delay. It's understandable. Considering book them allowing us to transfer all of our previous microtransactions, so the new game is something that's I've never been done, and I doubt that will be done something that any other game company will do anytime soon. This is okay to me.
