Hey guys! I made this video for two reasons. The first is to help new players get a better understanding of how to gear and secondly to kill the misconception that only “rich” players can have fun in Path of Exile. If you have a friend that is new or know of someone who use the the rich people excuse for not being able to progress then please share this video with them.

this is the most helpful video i've ever seen for PoE. i'm not exactly a "new" player anymore, but I've only played a couple of leagues for a few weeks each time, mainly because just trying to get into the end game has felt like a brick wall. i would finish the main campaign some where in my 60s, still wearing whatever raggedy questing blues/yellows, tip toe-ing into maps and depth 15 delves, with no clue how supposed to actually "progress". Getting good gear to run better maps with costs currency, and you get currency by running the better maps.....so....that's helpful. And then you see all these "guides" on youtube, showing off these "beginner builds" or "league starter" builds, or "super simple wreck the map builds"...and then surprise, the build that's capable of actually doing the content they showed actually costs like 10 ex in total while the budget version still costs 20c or more and is only capable of mid-tier maps with a bunch of hidden costs like crafting and good flasks. it's just been so unbelievably frustrating. veteran players seem to have lost perspective about how daunting just making enough currency to buy starter gear can be when you're literally brand new and don't know all the efficient ways to do things yet and don't have all the OP crafting recipes yet. This video was genuinely helpful and dispelled some of my anxiety and cynicism, so thanks. You're pretty awesome.

Nice Video Lifting! Just a little tip: When you were searching for that body armour and have a bunch of items that fit the criteria, you can simply click on a value and the results will be sorted by that value (highest to lowest. Click it again to sort it lowest to highest). For example: You have 30 Body Armours for maximum 5 Chaos Orbs, all have a minimum of [60% total elemental resists] + [+60 to maximum life]. If you want the highest life armour, just click on the life value of an item. Now the page will show the item with the highest [+# to maximum life] at the top of the result list. The Items below will (of course) have slightly less [+# to maximum life], but you should always check them in case their [+# total elemental resists] value is significantly higher than the top result. Of course you can (and sometimes should) adjust the minimum criterias and rise them slightly afterwards. In addition to that, let there be a small tolerance when you set the maximum price. Don't put 5c at max price, sometimes 6c or 7c items are waaay better. Even if you are buying items on a small budget this can be very useful. Anyways, very nice video Mr. Lifting, i hope i didn't R.I.P. the english language too much ;D
@davidbacsa55065 жыл бұрын
Hey Lifting, it's a cool vid, helps most of the new fellow! One thing that I'd mention is instead of putting the max life, elemental resists minimum requirement higher, we should just use the SUM feature instead of the AND and put them in decreasing order. We can also use weighted sum if needed but that's a bit more advanced.
@mikaeljensen47665 жыл бұрын
^This ^ is good advise. I generally use life weight 3 and total res weight 2 and use another search group to hard low-cap any specific res that I'm missing. Gives great results and makes cheap gearing much more powerful.

Tip: You can use the 'weighted sum' for total life and total res and then sort by that sum. Furthermore, you can add more filter groups for more conditions like 'at least 37% fire res' on top of the weighted sum.

Very nice video, and especially thank you for giving me some hints as to what stats are good on a given piece of equipment. Also, for other beginners: There is a vendor recipe where you turn in a full set of unidentified yellow equipment (with the lowest item level among them being 70) that gives 2 chaos. About 2 hours of grinding, tops, can easily net you 20c. Finally, I do strongly agree with the feeling of "not having earned" endgame when you get there. My first character (totem-spam Hierophant, no build guide) got pretty far, and I kept worrying like "hey, did I accidentally find an exploit or something? I thought my first character was supposed to be terrible..." Only ran it for like two weeks, since Legion dropped after that and now I'm running a cyclone Slayer instead.

If you're looking for a specific type of gloves (something with armor and no ES, like you were here), you can filter by stat requirement. Set strength to 1 minimum, intelligence to 1 maximum, and you'll get only gloves with armor and no ES. Edit: I see you added an armor requirement later. Another thing, when looking to fill out Dex/Str/Int requirements, if you're having trouble finding anything with those stats at your price, you can search for gear that doesn't have those, but does have a free suffix mod and no crafted mods. Then you can craft the stat you need.
@JayKay11025 жыл бұрын
Another point to add would be to ask the seller if a lower price would be fine as well. Many people are actually fine with it. That way you can maybe add more expensive gear to the search if you don't find anything within your parameters.
@quan.y5 жыл бұрын
Very helpful guide especially for new players! However, one should notice that once unique equipment comes into build, every other rares will need higher rolled affix since unique usually lack one or more affix that we needed on rare which would have been in the slot (e.g. resistances/life/attributes). Which means higher investment on other rares are needed.
@gallantblues53285 жыл бұрын
Can confirm this sort of approach works! Just replaced half my gear for the beginning of act 10 using a similar approach. I bought lvl 65 or lower bases and was able to save currency that way, though on the flip side I'll need to cycle gear before t10 maps. But it worked for getting value out of my 5c and a few alchs!

I played synthesis with a Bane Occultist CI build and the guide I followed had direct links to Poe trade for gear pieces of every slot. It really made it easy because I made it to T15 maps, but this league I was struggling with T7s. Seeing someone use the filters on the trade site is so helpful. Thanks!

I like switching search condition from AND to SUM when buying early map gear. It gives an option to sort restults by sum of life + resistances (or whatever was chosen to search for). In this way it is possible to find an item with some lower life value but a ton of resistances or the opposite, a ton of life but mediocre resistances. It just gives more options :)
@tebi88125 жыл бұрын
I think this is really inefficient! You wanna want to have high life AND resistances. Lifting proved in his video that you can achieve this within 20c...
@AtlantisArch5 жыл бұрын
One guide you could do is about looking for/buying stuff that has VERY good stats/uses but is weirder and never adressed in build guides : incursion items, delve items (not crafting, but you still can speak about it since resonator prices is just stupid, streamer effect), talismans (my favorite at improving build a lot for really cheap), and (a bit less overlooked but still underestimated) elder/shaper affixes.
@sethhh75 жыл бұрын
One item that makes it exremly easy for melee builds to stay at below 20c budget and still work great is the bringer of rain helmet. Except for like the first day of the season it is 1c and gives you ok stats with a pseudo 6L. This way you dont have to sink fusing or the likes in some suboptimal leveling armors or twohanders. By the time you reach red maps and are in a trade league you can easily go then for better stuff.

I would switch a few things, if you want a more glass cannon (faster but harder) swap the amount spent on armor to weapons (going even as low as 1 chaos armor). I would also cap resist on rings cause that is cheap af, at least when I started gearing for maps it was so cheap to grab insane resist rings.
