It's strange to think of the PA-4's gone so soon, because under normal circumstances in terms of age, the cars have another 12 years of useful lifespan. It's a shame that some small rail system somewhere can't use them. Basically, the H&M and PATH cars have IRT dimensions. However, the PA-1, PA-2, PA-3, and PA-4 cars had curved bodies to allow the transverse seating the cars originally had at the ends. The R62, R62A and R142 fleet had to retain straight sides due to the size of the 1904 tunnels.

@nyyankeefan2009 the reason that it's all PA-4 is because the PA 1-3's are all already retired. This and another solid PA-4 set are the last OTT trains on PATH property, and will be gone by next week.

@nyyankeefan2009 I'm not sure about the 50% hike but I do know that PATH did want a fleet renewal because they want to install CBTC while the PA-4's can't handle CBTC.

@Noveltooner Unlike the PA1-3's, these cars werent rehabbed so they actually are at retirement state. It would have really been a waste if they rehabbed them and then got rid of them. also, PATH is keeping 90% of their PA-4 for work fleet, If you look by the JSQ yards, they are full of PA-4 (and PA-3) work trains.
