Graham Greene and Kevin Dillon were wonderful actors in this movie. The other two Native Americans , the heavyweightt one and his woman were very good in their parts. The sea Captain and thr River Caaptain were also excellent. Stacy Keach acted far below his abilities . All others were from just good to substandard. The theme of the movie was excellent. The cinematic photography was very good. The fate of the King's officer was quite satisfying. I give this movie four thumbe up, two of which I had to borrow at interest. Thank you for this wonderful movie presentation !

Why wasn't Russell Means cast as Chingachgook as in "The Last Of The Mohicans"? Did Graham Greene have more star power in 1996? DDL, Russell Means and the young and gorgeous Eric Schweig were great as Hawkeye, Chingachgook and Uncas! But it's unfair to compair this light-hearted tv-movie with "The Last Of The Mohicans".

Its two memories in one. The Actors looking so young, the locations being where I visited in my youth nearly 60 years ago. Fort Niagara and Saint Marie Among the Hurons in Midland Ontario. My grandchildren show little interest, more interested in seeing Disneyworld than stuffy old forts. But what they do not know is that THIS, these Forts and rivers and forests were dangerous places. This is the actual Path of their Actual Ancestors reduced to entertainment props. The old stock Americans and Canadians melt away like some ancient glacier leaving only rocks and stones saying, We Were here when it mattered most. Their voices echoed in those forests. We are only memories that you chose to keep alive.

Pathfinder is not the same story as Last of the Mohicans. Pathfinder comes chronologically after LOTM by about 2 years. Completely different story. The movie LOTM was excellent and it’s one of my favorites - but it was not true to the book in many ways. Hawkeye was never in love with Cora, Duncan was never in love with Cora, and Uncas was never in love with Alice. The Pathfinder is the only time Natty Bumpo (Hawkeye/Pathfinder/Deerslayer) was ever in love. So you can enjoy this movie if you’re up for it, it’s not the same story as LOTM. But, as the saying goes, the books are better. Enjoy!

@@carlreed6186 LOTM from the 90’s was phenomenal! But it really didn’t follow the book, relationship wise. None of the match-up in the movie were true to the book. The endings of some characters weren’t true to the book, and Duncan and Natty had a respectful relationship and were not in competition.

A beautiful movie, Have read book of James Fenimoor Cooper 's Last of the Mohicans as well seen the movie, yet to read Pathfinder, would find it interesting. The character of Pathfinder is fascinating, the Seven year war which started in North America between France and England was devastating, the tension between both, effected large provinces of India too. Just as they divided Indian polity by helping different factions,they divided the various groups of indigenous Indians of North America too.

In what was probably the funniest - and most scathing - book review in the history of literature, Mark Twain took aim at the books that are the basis of this movie in his "Fenimore Cooper's Literary Offenses." I read it as a college freshman nearly 60 years ago and have never forgotten Twain's delight - AND perfect accuracy! - in demolishing the overblown, highly contradictory and downright foolishness of Cooper's "Leatherstocking Tales." If not always strictly accurate, and certainly not fair (which latter, of course, would've lessened the sting - and defeated Twain's purpose), "Literary offenses" makes for some of Twain's funniest writing. Here are two of my favorites: "The tale shall accomplish something and arrive somewhere. But the "Deerslayer" accomplishes nothing and arrives in the air" and "The author shall use the right word, not its second cousin." Do yourself a favor and find a copy of this; it'll be worth the effort!
@katiejon17
@katiejon17 5 ай бұрын
Have you read the Leatherstocking series? Deerslayer was phenomenal, and the reference to ‘using the right word, not its second cousin’ I believe is because Cooper (as many writers of the day) wrote phonetically. Especially Natty’s dialogue, because he wasn’t “larn’ed” in society.

I always wondered if the cast of "Platoon" did any more shows. "Bunny" (Kevin Dillon) got the lead role in this one just six years later! Funny how this movie loosely followed the script of "Last of the Mohicans" and was released just months after that blockbuster won 7 awards, 17 nominations and one Oscar! This must've been quite a let down for Dillon after all the awards "Platoon" got!

I haven't watch this movie yet, but will later. I just wanna say that I have a great admiration and love for ❤ Native Americans, they have such a beautiful and rich culture and tradition. It's really sad how they were murdered, (almost like a genocide) and put in internates. I also hated how they always were portrayed as villains or savages, while it was the other way around and the white men and the cowboys were the real savages. Killing all the bizon's and buffalo's out of greed not for food, and using guns on them they had never seen before. Bringing alcohol and diseases. The Native Americans had such a respect for nature, animals and such knowledge about medicines and herbes. I also think the men and women are so beautiful. It's a shame a lot of that culture is lost and that there are so few indigenous people left. Only in the Amazone Rainforrest and countries like Brasil. I live in Europe and had to do a paper at school on a self chosen subject. I was around 8 or 9 years old when I did a paper on it. I was so fascinated by them. I also did a paper on Slavery around the same time and found out, that before black people were sold as slaves, they did the same to Native Americans, but 80% or 90% of them died of diseases, when they tried to ship them to Europe. Because they were used to such a healthy life and never had diseases, they all got all kinds of diseases, because of no immunity. Because that wasn't lucrative for the slave owners, they started to use black people.

Why on earth would you recast Chingahchook if you have the original actor (Russell Means) on your payroll? Makes no sense especially since they seemed to pay the new Chingahchook by the minute judging by his clumsy habit of continuously exiting the scenes and then equally clumsily coming back later.

Nostalgia, it does wonders to recreate a real event into one people long for. It is amazing how non-Yunwiya portray the misdeeds of their ancestors. Almost like they'd like to repeat them. When in fact, they do everyday. Just yesterday I had an Arian tell me of my peoples demise with a smile on his young face. Portraying an innocent face with thoughts of the Devil. Of course it was assumed I'd agree that "he" was knowledgeable. In reality, I am the one he idolizes. I am true, and nothing about "that" is real. Naguali ale Tonali. That is what "they" are searching for, but are too scared to face.

Historia pokazuje radości okrucieństwa i emocje, dziś wojna na Ukrainie udowadnia że Rosjanie to dziki azjatycki wschód z bomba atomowa i rozpowszechnionym mniemaniem o swojej wyższości rasowej

In those days they would have been known as The English and NOT The British, and more to the point is that they weren't that daffy, they did have the largest empire the world has ever known. Also I am quite amazed and how neat some ot lawns are.....not bad in the days when they didnt really cut it. And tose ACCENTS..all round shocker of a terrigble movie with little resemblence to the Hawkeye of J F C.

July 18th. 1775 "The British are coming!" Paul Revere. To the rest of the world, the largest empire in human history was known as "the British Empire", not "the English" one and the Crown was referred to as "the British Crown.

It is not Last of the Mohicans. It's based on The Pathfinder. Cooper wrote 5 books using the same character.
