Well thought out system. Comes from experience which is what I like. Technically impressive but simple in deployment. Yeah, I'm impressed. Has anyone noticed that Dave has evolved into a really good teacher?

I picked up two of them last year for the wife and I. I have others, I have some really expensive in my opinion, overpriced hammock, but we love these and they are what we grab walking out the door.

I just spent a very uncomfortable night on a Nemo Tensor map inside a trekking pole tent. I came home and went to the SelfRelianceOutfitters cite, saw the deal you have on the hammock and tarp combo and ordered one. I already have 3 tarps (2 3x3s and a 3x4) but your deal was too good to pass up. Then, today, I saw this video. A very timely watch for me. Thanks so much, Dave. I've been a fan of yours since your days on Dual Survival and think you do a great job of teaching and demonstrating. I'm looking forward to using the new hammock/tarp combo and giving you my feedback.

David, I tried the rapid deployment ridge line and it worked perfect and quickly. Even better, the take down was much faster and easier method then my older way. Thanks for providing easy to follow directions. Skillet

I already have multiple hammocks and tarps. Just wanted to comment that this kit looks to be a great value at that price point and I would recommend this to anyone looking to try hammock camping for the first time.

Dave I have worked all the information over and over and come up with the same ideas with the clips as you have. I've beat this horse to death and I think we have found the best ideas. Your knowledge is unsurpassed. It's not based on theories. Only experience can lead to the amount of knowledge you share.

All that talk about stakes and now I want a steak, I bought my Pathfinder hammock back in early fall of 2021 for a camping trip to the Smoky mountains, used it a lot since, it's mostly hung up at the edge of my backyard porch gets some sunlight here and there, mostly try to keep it put up in bad weather, but shows no signs of tears or had any problems with it at all, my first hammock, it's a great starter Hammock for anyone thinking about trying Hammocks for sure.

Been using my Hennessy Jungle pretty much this way for years, only exception is I no longer use the tree straps with clip loops, I use a dyneema woopie sling and I slide everything into a snake skin cover for simple storage and deployment.

I got one of these hammocks a few years ago when they 1st came out. I had such an incredible sleep that 1st night it sold me on hammocks! PA is hard to find ground without a rock in the middle of your back or pressing into your thigh. Lol. I now own 4 hammocks from several companies but still use this one occasionally. These mods are similar to what I did. I would add one more: sew a little loop into the hammock body near where your head is so you can guy out a little away from your face. I had mosquitoes bite me through the net where it touched my face. Despite that, this is still a great hammock for the price.

My quick deploy ridge line has 4 prussicks made with bank line. I just use toggles to attach the bug nets on my hammocks. I use a marlin spike hitch in the bowline end and truckers hitch on the other.

I bought this set on sale- very impressive especially with your tips. I have a couple concerns- size of the included tarp is on the edge of not big enough for coverage and the system could use a companion underquilt suggestion - similar to the new forester’s quilt or a (less expensive) full length underquilt. The underquilt is useful to keep mosquitoes/biting insects from getting through the hammock material in warm weather and of course insulating layer in cold weather.

Great video! I think it'd be more convenient if the stuff pouch was inside the hammock - quicker and easier to grab your glasses and cell phone etc, besides keeping the bugs out by not having to unzip the screen mesh.

I like the hammock an tarp combo, but is the tarp long enough in case the wind blows rain? Thanks
@xSikks6 ай бұрын
You could make a fixed or adjustable permanent ridgeline on the hammock's continuous loops that would hold the sag of your hammock so it always feels the same no matter the tree spacing and it would hold the bugnet up off of you. All you'd need is a piece of cord. That's one less ridgeline to have to set up.

The Pathfinder Jungle Hammock is my 2nd ever hammock, after buying a cheap Chinese no-brand hammock to see if I liked hammock camping. It lasted about 8 nights when it dumped me on the ground...my elbow actually pushed through when rolling over. I love the Pathfinder hammock but am still finding the perfect tension. I find it deep and hard to swing my legs out to extract myself.

I understand why they put the fluorescent lines in the kit, especially if you have kids running around and stuff like that and you have your hammock, it's definitely nicer if your eyesight is not very good . it's good to have the fluorescent guidelines and stuff so you don't run into clothesline yourself or trip.

I’ve had the hammock for a few years. It’s a great hammock. However, I think I might have received a hammock with too much material. It’s so hard to get out of the hammock because when I swing my knees over the side of the hammock, my butt is about 4 or 5 inches below the side of the hammock. With that, there’s so much pressure on the back of the knees, it leaves a red mark on the back of knees. I then need to swing the hammock back and forth to get my feet to touch the ground. I’ve owned many different hammocks without this problem. Has anyone else had this problem with the PF hammock?
